Sam Long left us on July 1, 2020, to join his family in heaven. Sam grew up in Imperial, Penn. and saw the world through loving and kind eyes. His friends were many, his enemies were few. He made friends easily and could connect with anyone.

He attended school in Imperial, near the Pittsburgh Airport. He graduated from West Allegheny High School in 1960, and in later years enjoyed attending reunions with classmates. He graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1970, after interrupting his education to work in construction and to serve in the U.S. Army for two years, where he received the Army Commendation Medal in 1968, and was promoted to Spec 5. He met his future wife, Linda, at Slippery Rock, and they married on Jan. 10, 1970.

He taught elementary school in Franklin, Penn. and Polk, Peen. for a few years before changing careers. He began working at Warren State Hospital in 1974 as a Recreation Therapist, ending his career due to disability in 1998 as Assistant Director of Therapeutic Recreation.

Most importantly of all, this wonderful man with a beautiful soul, loved serving the Lord by leading Bible studies for many years and encouraging and discipling men to reach their full potential in Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Malis Long; his daughter, Victoria (Adam) Myhre; his "grandgirls," Amelia, Hazel and Ruby; his sisters, Betty (Mel) Kletzli, Louetta (Bob) Provost, and Charlotte (Rob) Weir; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ruth Luzier & Samuel Long; his son, Brian Long; his brothers, Charles Long and Cecil Long; his sisters, Catherine Lipely, Mary Drugmand, and Ann Carroll.

A private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
