Lois Cowan, 92, of West 9th Street, Russellville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at Creekwood Nursing and Rehab in Russellville. She was born in Robertson County on Nov. 18, 1921 to the late John Henry Austin and Rosie Lee Traughber Austin.  

She was a seamstress for the Acme Boot Company and member of Berea Christian Church.  She was an avid gardener and seamstress, volunteered for the local Red Cross Blood Bank and the Logan County Senior Citizens Center and member of the The Red Hat Society and was a Foster Grandparent.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, J. L. Cowan, her son, Clark Cowan, and her great-grandson, Brett Johnson.

She is survived by her son ~ Duane Cowan (Gale) ~ Greenbrier, Tenn.; her daughter ~ Bea Long ~ Russellville; her daughter-in-law ~ Dorothy Cowan ~ Adairville; her grandchildren ~ Johnny Hankins, Linda Cowan, Judy Sayne, Marsha Cowan, Cathy Diane Johnson, Tracy Cowan, Chris Cowan; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend ~ Martin Pike.

 

Funeral services for Lois Cowan will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Richardson officiating with interment in Maple Grove cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service at 3 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Berea Christian Church Children’s Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
