James ‘Sompa’ Whitaker, 70, of Lewisburg, died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
He was born Saturday, Sept. 2, 1950 in Lewisburg, the son of the late Robert Whitaker and the late Myrtle Jenkins.
He was a logger and a farmer, and also attended BOAT Church on Lake Malone.
Surviving are his very special friend, Marilyn Smith of Lewisburg; his brother, John Whitaker of Lewisburg; his sisters, Jo Ann Talley of Elkton, Virginia Willis of Lewisburg and Linda Willis of Scottsville. Sompa was also a very special father to Terry Smith, Peggy Smith, Pamela Armstrong, and Melvin Smith.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St. Lewisburg with Bro. Garry Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Wileys Chapel Cemetery, Lewisburg.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Price Funeral Home.
Visitation will also be held on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Due to current mandates and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is required that a mask be worn at all times while inside the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Price Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
