Gracie Erlene Woodall Steenbergen, 89, of Russellville passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville. She was a Logan County native, born Feb. 25, 1932, the tenth child of Ard Woodall and Myrtle Jenkins Woodall.
She attended Gum Springs one-room school, in rural Logan County and then graduated from Chandlers High School, after having completed 12 years of school in 10 years. On Jan. 29, 1953, she married R. D. Steenbergen (1919-1993). They had six children: Debra Faye, Ronald Duane, Paul Douglas, James Anthony, Sharon Denise and Randall Delane. Erlene began her working career at the Russellville Sewing Factory and continued at various other factories throughout her years (in between having children and moving). She, R. D. and six children lived in Hopkinsville, Houston, Glasgow and Russellville.
She has always been an enthusiastic seamstress, whether clothing her children, sewing for neighbors, quilting for family and neighbors, or just anything to do with sewing. She continued to sew and quilt (at age 89), as was her inheritance from her mother and grandmother.
