J. G. ‘Moon’ Cates, 93, of Russellville, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 at his home. He was a Logan County native, born June 4, 1928 to the late John Greene Cates II and Laura Duncan Cates. He was an entrepreneur and founder of Cates Cabinets in 1963. He attended many local churches and was a member of the Gideons, Rotary Club, Home Builders Association, Chamber of Commerce and the Cattleman’s Association.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Cates, and his sons, John W. Cates and Willie Cates.
He is survived by his sons, Barry Cates and wife Missy of Russellville, Jimmy Cates and Paul of Lake Worth, Fla. and Audie Bray and wife Sharon of Russellville; his daughters, Bonnie DeArmond and husband Ray and Laurie Holloway and husband Phil, all of Russellville; daughter-in-law, Frances Cates of Russellville; and special companion, Louise Reynolds; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for J. G. ‘Moon’ Cates will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Humble and Bro. David Morgan officiating with burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Tuesday, Nov, 2, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the service time.
