James “Sonny” Duncan, 84, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022 at his home. He was a Logan County native, born Dec. 31, 1937 to the late George Thomas Duncan and Elaine Frances Nash Duncan.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and supervisor for ITW. He attended Russellville Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an avid Russellville Panther football fan and was inducted into the Russellville Panther Hall of Fame in 2012.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Marie Russell Duncan; his son, Donald “Duck” Duncan; and his sisters, Dorothy Gilliam and Martha Duncan.
He is survived by his sons, David Duncan of Cadiz, Darrell Higginbotham and Denise of Owensboro, and Ronnie Higginbotham and Melanee of Louisville; his daughters, Sandra Silvey and Rodney of Cookeville, Tenn., Sheila Duncan and Tony Flener of Morgantown and Cindy Jennet and Charles of Russellville; his sister, Elizabeth Davis of Russellville; 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for James “Sonny” Duncan will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 14, at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Humble officiating with burial to follow in the William T. Duncan Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Sunday, March 13, from 4-7 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the service hour.
Memorial donations may be made to the Logan County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
