Mitchell D. Parker, Sr., 97, of Olmstead Road, Olmstead, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014 at the Logan Memorial Hospital. He was a Logan County native, born June 29, 1917 to the late Earl L. Parker and Ruth Poor Parker. He was a WWII United States Marine veteran, a retired Captain with the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a member of the Dripping Spring Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Laurie Powell Parker on Dec. 30, 2006, and his sister, Elsie Parker Arnold. He was also preceded in death by a niece, Patsy Arnold Davis, and nephew, Larry Parker Arnold.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law ~ Mitchell Jr. and Carol Parker ~ Olmstead; his daughters ~ Marilyn Parker McKinney ~ Lewisburg, and Carolyn Parker Roshon ~ Jackson, Tenn.; his grandchildren ~ Vickie Townsend, Shelia Young, Debbie Neel, Norman Parker, Keith Ramsey, Rob Roshon, Gary Parker, Britt Roshon, Shannon Dodson and Patrick McKinney; 10 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a niece, Lois Ann Prince, and nephew, Joe Boyce Arnold, and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mitchell D. Parker Sr. will be conducted on Monday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Noffsinger officiating with burial to follow in the Dripping Spring Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday, Dec/ 28, from 2-5 p.m. and Monday after 8 a.m. until the funeral hour of 1 p.m.
