Roberta Gilliam, 87, of Safety Harbor, Fla., formerly of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 in the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
She was born April 20, 1927 to the late Hubert Knight and Agnes Welborn Knight. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie D. Gilliam, a son, Dewell Gilliam, a granddaughter, Beth Ann Gilliam, her brother, Ruben Knight, and her sister, Dorothy Barr.
Ms. Gilliam had many talents among them, her good country cooking. She worked many years with her husband in farming before going to Red Kap Industries as a seamstress. She then retired from the Logan County School System as a school aide. She was a member of O’Roark United Methodist Church. She moved to Florida in 1999 but returned often to Russellville to visit family and friends. She will be remembered for her caring and loving support of family and friends.
She is survived by her son ~ Dan Gilliam (Shirley) ~ Bowling Green; her daughter ~ Nena Naab (Carl) ~ Safety Harbor, Fla.; her brother ~ Dallas Knight ~ San Angelo, Texas; her grandchildren ~ Michael J. Gilliam and Thomas D. Gilliam; her great-grandchildren ~ Zachery Thomas and Kimberly Ann Gilliam.
Funeral services for Roberta Gilliam will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne Thomas and Pastor Cheryl Duke officiating, with burial to follow in O’Roark United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will take place Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 5-8 pm. and after 8 a.m. on Wednesday until the funeral hour of 1 p.m.
Donations may be made to the O’Roark United Methodist Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
