William “Bill” Stokes, 83, of Louisville, formerly of Russellville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024 at The Pinnacle of Louisville. He was born in Elkton on Feb. 10, 1941 to the late William Ford Stokes and Edith Evylene Boley Stokes.
He was a member of Post Oak Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Kentucky National Guard after 37 years of service as Command Sergeant Major. He retired from Rockwell/Sensus with 51 years of service as a Die Cast Supervisor, and he retired from East Logan Water District after 32 years of service as Chairman of the Board.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Leon Stokes, and his sisters, Edith Ann McReynolds and Mary Kathryn Hopkins.
He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann VanDam of Louisville and Deedie Sue Jones and husband, Mike of Camden, Tenn,; his grandchildren, Ragan Jones, Avery Jones, Enno VanDam, Quinn VanDam, Everett Jones and Camilla Jones; and his special caregiver, Denise Griffis.
Funeral services for William “Bill” Stokes will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Wilbur Powell officiating with burial to follow in the Green Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the service hour.
