James Ray Flowers was born on Dec. 17, 1957, in Logan County to Lillie Mae Allen Flowers and the late James Young Flowers. He departed from this life on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025 at his home.
At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Olmstead.
He united in Holy Matrimony to Lauvonia “Bony” Temple and this union was blessed with one son, James Joseph Ray Flowers. Years later in life he was joined in a decade -long relationship with the late Betty Lou Morris Daniel along with raising her two devoted nieces, Kim Morris and Kimmari Ferguson.
He was a farmer at several prominent farms and dairy farms in Olmstead until his body and health started to deteriorate.
James Ray was such a lovable caring man who had a special relationship with every person he would meet. James Ray was known for knowing all the family history and more. He enjoyed helping people like being their taxicab driver, mechanic, electrician, babysitter and maintenance guy. He enjoyed working on cars and word find puzzles. He loved his guns, TV and TV antennas and Facebook.
James Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his significant other, Betty Lou Morris; his brothers Leroy Flowers, John Allen Flowers and William Flowers; and his sisters, Catherine Flowers and Ella Mae Flowers Dickerson.
His memory will be forever cherished by his son, James Joseph Ray Flowers (Columbus, Ga.); his brother. Herman Junior Flowers (Guthrie); his sister, Claudine Shanklin (Ford) (Russellville); his aunts, Elizabeth Mason (Russellville) and Margaret Ann Cross (Clarksville); his devoted nieces, Kim Morris and Kimmari Ferguson (Bowling Green); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gravesides services for James Ray Flowers will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at Russellville’s Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.
