William Wright Dockins, "Bill," was born in Russellville on the Fourth of July, 1949 to Robert Hanes & Ella Wright Dockins. He died peacefully in his sleep, at his home in New Britain, CT on Aug. 21, 2015. He was 66 years old.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Dockins Kocan; his son-in-law, Heath Quincy Kocan; and his granddaughter, Cora Belle Kocan of Cordova, Ark.
Bill was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating the advertising agency Dockins Communications in Berlin, Conn., from 1985 until the early 2000s. In 1999 he purchased and ran Bobby's Place, a neighborhood bar and gathering place in New Britain, Conn. until his time of death.
He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University. He was an avid golfer earlier in life and a keen fan of basketball and horse racing right until the end.
Bill was generous and quick to help when someone was in need, especially children. He established an annual Scholarship Fund in honor of his parents and was always ready to buy cookies or candies when neighborhood children were fundraising. He remained proud of his southern heritage and kept it alive through cornbread, biscuits and a lifelong dedication to providing for his family.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and his generous heart.
Interment and graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville Oct. 19at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bob & Ella Dockins Scholarship Fund at BB&T.
