Maurice 'Buddy' Linton, 83, of East 7th Street, Russellville, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. He was a Logan County native, born Oct. 31, 1932 to the late Maurice Ragland Linton and Cloe Ballance Linton. 

He was a U.S. Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne and an educator and assistant superintendent with the Russellville Independent Schools.  He served as assistant coach with the Russellville Panthers football teams that included two state championships. He was also the head coach who began the boys golf team, laaying the foundation for a state championship in 1970. He was later inducted into the Russellville Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame. Buddy was a member of the Optimist Club and member of the United Methodist Temple, where he sang in the choir.

 

He is survived by his wife, Paula Pillow Linton; his daughters ~ Samra Linton Smith and Tracy Linton Wrenn and husband Wesley ~ all of Russellville; and his grandchildren ~ Ann Linton Smith and Michael Browning Smith,

 

Graveside services for Maurice 'Buddy' Linton will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, at Maple Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

 

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Mike Smith Scholarship Fund, 280 South Main Street, Russellville 42276.
