James D. ‘Papaw’ Lawson, 90, of Coopertown Road Russellville, passed away Sunday Nov. 27, 2016 at his home. He was a Logan County native born October 8, 1926 to the late Joshua Davis Lawson and Mattie Marie Sweatt Lawson. He was a farmer, coal miner, and a mechanic. He was a member of Center Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and song leader from 1949 to 1991. He was also a member of The Cavaliers and Gospel Sounds Quartet.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Wanda Lee Orange Lawson; his son, David Lawson, and his sisters, Wanda Ellis and Josephine Corum.
He is survived by his sons ~ Lendall Lawson and wife Sheila and Kendall Lawson and wife Tonja ~ all of Russellville; his daughter ~ Phyllis Wilson and husband Ray ~ Auburn; his daughter-in-law ~ Phyllis Lawson ~ Russellville; seven grandchildren and 12 great-granchildren.
Funeral services for James D. ‘Papaw’ Lawson will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Summers, Kirby and Sanders with Bro. Donnie White and Bro. David Morgan officiating with burial to follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 5-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the service hour at 1 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Center Baptist Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
