Steve William Abney, 67, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Nashville. He was a Logan County native, born Sept. 4, 1949 to the late George Abney and Hazel Noe Abney. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and he was of the Mormon faith. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the DAV, American Legion and the 11th Armored Calvary’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia.
He is survived by his wife ~ Denise Abney; his son ~ Chris Abney and wife Sonya ~ Portland; his step-son ~ Ronnie Harper ~ Russellville; his daughter ~ Tina Williams and husband Michael ~ Bowling Green; his brothers ~ Glenn Abney ~ Oklahoma, Lloyd Abney ~ Auburn, and Michael Abney ~ Russellville; his sisters ~ Mary Ruth Johnson ~ Auburn, and Patricia Shoulders ~ Schochoh; his grandchildren ~ Dylan Hightower, Dustin Dodson and Cody Abney; his step-granddaughters ~ Kayla Harper and Kara Williams.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Abney.
Funeral services for Steve William Abney will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fuller officiating with burial to follow in Sulphur Spring Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour of 11.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
