Mary Willyne (Anderson) Dorris, 96, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 in Frankfort. She was born Nov. 25, 1920 at Union Grove, Logan County, to Carl and Myrtle Anderson.
She was the widow of A.B. Dorris to whom she was married to for 57 years. She was a faithful member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where they raised their children to have a deep relationship with Jesus. She sang in the Choir, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Willyne was an evangelist at heart who shared the love of the Lord with her friends and passed out salvation tracks to strangers. She loved her family dearly, was a homemaker, a self- taught seamstress, painter, self-taught hair stylist, and she used these talents to serve her community. She developed a reputation for being an avid Rook player, energizing great family gatherings.
Willyne was predeceased by her husband, A.B. Dorris; her daughter Mary Johnson; her granddaughter, Linda Gray; her great-grandchild, Jerimiah Johnson, and her siblings Edith Atkins, Curtis Anderson, Adeline Rogers, Inell Mattingly, Sherrell Anderson, Randall Anderson, and Carl Anderson Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Grace Woodall of Russellville; her daughters, Betty Gray of Union City, Tenn., Jo (Don) McCormick of Frankfort, Diane of Danville, and Aprile (Howard) Hunt of Danville; her son, Drexel (Faye) Dorris of Owensboro; her grandchildren; Jeff McCormick, H. Price Hunt IV, Hanna Baker, Lisa Crider, Barry Johnson, Tim Johnson, and Kim Higgins. She also had 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Lewisburg with Bro. Tim Nugent will be officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin an hour before the funeral.
