James Edward Miles, 76, died on July 6, 2018. He passed at home in his favorite chair while sleeping peacefully holding his book. His love for books was shared with his children and grandchildren as well their spouses. He was born in Russellville on April 13, 1942 to James Alderson Miles and Mazelle Blackwell Miles. He was born at home during World War II and didn’t see his father until he was three years old.
As a kid he read all the books in the Russellville lending library. Later on in the 1980s, he ran a comic and bookstore in Bowling Green. Around town he was known as the book man. In the 1990s he was one of the first online booksellers. He passed this vocation and his love of books on to his older son James and the love of reading books and comics to his younger son Claude. He married his high school sweetheart Dora Mae, June 3, 1962 and they celebrated their 56th anniversary this past June.
He is survived by his wife Dora Mae, his sons James Edward Miles (Merete) and Claude Dunn Miles (Tonya); his grandchildren, Heidi (Kirt) and Luke; his siblings, Robert Miles, Gary Miles, Judy Cartwright, Alice Gaye Coursey, Glen Miles (Rose) and Sue Bond (Earl). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Peggy.
The memorial service will be held Sunday, July 8l at Walnut Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with light refreshments to follow at the Miles residence. Bro. Calvin Naylor will be officiating.
