Gene Thurmond, 84, of Oklahoma formerly of Adairville, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in Oklahoma. He was born in Central City, on Dec. 26, 1934 to the late Benjamin and Nettie Thurmond. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a self-employed TV and appliance repairman for over 50 years, and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, and step-daughter, Sherry Smith.
He is survived by his son, Tony Thurmond of Ohio; his step-sons, James Martin of Adairville and Mark Martin of Springfield; his daughter, Anita Phipps of Oklahoma; his step-daughter, Terry Mincy of Franklin; 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren
Cremation was chosen and the family of Gene Thurmond will have a Graveside Service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville with Bro. Carl Freudenthal officiating.
Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
