For close to a quarter century, the Logan County High School chapters of FCCLA and FFA have co-sponsored a Winter Food Drive. The annual drive provides students and faculty the opportunity to donate canned food items, which go to local help agencies for distribution. This year’s agencies were the Good Samaritan and Agape Service Foundation organizations.

During the collection phase, classes competed against one another to see who could collect the most cans. As an added incentive this year, Amy McLean’s senior English classes felt it was about time for a group to challenge and “take down” four-time champions Ryan Bailey’s senior English classes. This year we celebrate a new champion—Amy McLean’s senior English classes.

Going into this year, it is estimated just over 105,000 cans had been collected from previous drives combined; this year saw students collect 15,000 cans---easily, the greatest collection in the project’s history. The food drive ended Friday; the next morning saw the area hit by tornadic activity, proving the project’s success and timeliness to be of even greater relevance.

LCHS FFA sponsors are Jay Campbell and Wesley Estes. Joella Morrow and Amy Taylor serve as FCCLA sponsors.
