Over the years, many major sports franchises have left venues where they have been very successful for bigger, brighter lights. Now it’s happening in Logan County, and that makes this highly busy weekend even more interesting.
The Minneapolis Lakers, Brooklyn Dodgers, St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers have all packed up and moved to Los Angeles. Closer to home, the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta, the Indianapolis Colts slipped out of Baltimore, and the Houston Oilers became the Tennessee Titans. All of them but the Chargers and the Oilers had won the ultimate championships in their leagues.
The Logan County Antique Engine & Tractor Club has sponsored its highly popular antique tractor show and pull at Auburn’s McCutchen-Coke Park the first weekend in June for 30 years. More than any other event each year, it has drawn people to Logan County’s eastern-most city.
Starting Friday, the tractor show and pull will be staged at the UK Ag Complex on the intersection of John Paul Road and the North 68-80 Bypass of Russellville.
It begins Friday afternoon when the Logan County Chamber of Commerce holds a symbolic, ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new venue at 1:30 p.m.
The club has not shared any details about the remainder of the schedule of events with The Logan Journal.
400-Mile Sale
The 400 Mile Sale which spans the entire length of Kentucky began Thursday and runs through Sunday. A key part of it can be found in Logan County from South Union to Daysville. Booths, tables, entire yards will be filled with treasures and bargains. Logan County Tourism and the Logan Chamber of Commerce are among the sponsors.
Summer Learning at Logan Library
Logan County Public Library’s Summer Learning program begins Friday with the arrival of Silly Safari at 10:30 a.m. at the main branch in Russellville.
Summer Learning is described as “the meeting place of fun experiences and learning to help bridge the gap, with incentives to keep reading. Read daily for fun prizes and extra entries into grand prize drawings, as well as visit animals, sing songs, and learn about the ocean, right in your own town.”
Most Summer Learning events are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, often in Auburn.
Russellville Reads Summer Bookmobile
The Russellville Schools’ bookmobile will be at the Logan County Extension Office from 10-11:30 a.m.every Friday in June, starting this week.
Also in June, it will be at Bluegrass Meadows on June 7 and 21, and Russellville High School on June 14 and 21. It’s from 10-11:30 those days, too.
Logan County Farmers’ Market
The Logan County Farmers' Market will begin its 2022 season this Saturday and run until the end of October. Hours are 7:30-noon on Saturday mornings and 3-6 on Tuesday afternoons. It has been held for 17 years in the pavilion at the rear of the UK Ag Complex behind the Logan County Extension Office.
Auburn Legion Pancake Breakfast
Even though the Antique Tractor event is not in Auburn this year, many people will be coming through town for the 400-Mile Sale. Auburn Legion Post 29’s annual Pancake Breakfast will be held from 7-10 a.m. in the American Legion Building at 394 East Main Street.

The second in the series of Concerts @ Carrico on the Russellville Public Square will begin at 6 p.m. Nu-Blu will provide the music. Admission is free. Bringing lawn chairs is recommended. Food Trucks from The Rollin’ Ribeye Guys, Los 3 Hermanos, and The Sugary will be on site.
The sponsoring Logan County Chamber of Commerce says some downtown shops will stay open late for shoppers.
Country Junction Band at Post 29
The local band Country Junction will play classic country music for listening and/or dancing from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the new American Legion Post 29 Home at 430 Farmers Drive in West Russellville. There is no charge to get in but planners hope attendees will buy some food or drinks.
