A great addition to the Logan County Farmers’ Market has been two vendors featuring sweet stuff. Kris Partlow, “the Bread Lady,” has been a fixture at the market for several years, offering a wide variety of specialty breads to her loyal customers.
Kelly Hardison of Lewisburg was set up during the early months of the season with many creations of tasty sweets. She had to stop for a while after undergoing knee surgery, and her husband Chad accompanied her several Saturdays while she was recuperating. She had to end her season when the school year started.
The last couple of months, Nancy Varson has been there with her cakes and candies. They’ve been well received by customers. Her husband Steve is with her most Saturdays.
While Kris and Gordon Partlow and Kelley and Chad Hardison are familiar faces in the community, the Varsons are relative newcomers. The Varsons had lived in Georgia for 25 years, but after one of their sons transferred from Florida College to Western Kentucky University, they became interested in this area.
They bought land here and built their home in Logan County in 2020. Steve had worked in water filtration in Georgia, and their son Alex had started his HVAC business in Southcentral Kentucky. It grew so that Steve joined him in the HVA/Water Filtration business a year ago this month. Alex is a graduate of SKYCTC.
Andrew’s wife Alison is a nurse at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Alex’s wife Hannah taught at Franklin-Simpson High School before deciding to concentrate on child-rearing for now.
Nancy has been involved in cooking and baking most of her life. When the Varsons lived in Georgia, she was well-known for her decorated birthday cakes and had many customers there. She’s developing a customer-base in Logan County, including many people she has met at the Farmers’ Market.
Nancy calls her business Something Sweet. She can accept orders at 678-231-9848 or nvarson@comcast.net.
Alex, 31, and Steve operate Second Mile HVAC/Water Filtration. They sell, install and maintain residential heating and air conditioning systems.
A large part of their business involves helping people make sure they are drinking clean water. They conduct free water tests and then offer their equipment and expertise to help families remove harmful contaminates from their water, which also increases the life expectancy of home appliances.
Andrew, 34, works at a large lumber company in Allensville but is now transitioning into water filtration as the Varsons’ company grows.
To talk with Steve about either HVAC issues or water filtration, contact him at sales@secondmilebg.com or 270-780-3773.
The Logan County Farmers’ Market will be open three more times this season—this Saturday from 7:30-noon, Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. and next Saturday from 7:30-12.
