Logan County High School added what could become a new tradition this month by honoring seniors who have made a commitment to adding to their education, their skills, and their ability to serve others.
A total of 110 members of the Class of 2025 received “Signing Confirmed” certificates as it was announced their choice of schools or the military.
Nearly two-thirds of them (70 of 110) are headed to one of the local colleges.
So far, 42 have made the decision to study at Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College where they can get certified in a skill, obtain professional certification, earn an associates degree or complete their general education requirements before completing a bachelors degree the next two years at a university. The cost at SKYCTC or nearby sister KCTCS colleges Hopkinsville and Madisonville is generally less than half of the first two years at a public university and even more of private schools.
Another 28 have decided upon Western Kentucky University for all four years where they can get their education and be a part of social life, athletics and dorm living. Some areas of study, for example agriculture, aren’t available at the local junior college.
Ranking third with seven signees is Murray State University
Six graduates of LCHS, which has a highly successful and respected JROTC program, have enlisted in a branch of the military.
