Chamber honors those who serve community

Awards, thanks, honors, prizes and entertainment were all part of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s 2013-14 Annual Dinner recently at the Logan County Extension Office.

Brent Summers of Summers, Kirby & Sanders Funeral Home presided over the program with help from 2013 President Holli Brown.

The event, which was presented by Logan Aluminum with BB&T and Ventra Plastics as contributing sponsors, drew the maximum 350 reservations. All 40 tables were sponsored.

Top award winners were as follows:

Retiring Board Members: Sandra Kinser of Logan Aluminum, Randy Schumaker of Logan Aluminum and Gary Michael Templeman of the Extension Office

Tobacco Festival chair and co—chair: Holly Kash and Sandra Kinser

Volunteer of the Year: Chris Milam of the Extension Office

Logan United Award: Logan County Public Library

Teacher of the Year: Shannon Pearson, Auburn Elementary School

Farm Family of the Year: W.L. Moore and family

Small Business of the Year: Roy’s Bar-B-Q

Corporate Recognition: Russellville Electric Plant Board and H&H Sheetmetal

Past President: Holli Brown

Additionally, Dr. John Franklin led the invocation and pledge while Liz Russell sang the National Anthem. A special guest was Cpt. Carlos M. Sanford, commander of Echo Company, 7th Battalion, 101st AVN of Fort Campbell.

Judge-Executive Logan Chick administered the oath to the Chamber board and ambassadors.

The awards banquet planning committee consisted of Laurie Belcher, Paula Timberlake, Paige Dockins, Darlene Gooch, Sandra Kinser and Holli Brown.

Among the prizes give were a flag which flew over the U.S. Capitol—donated by Sen. Mitch McConnell—and a flag which flew over the state capitol—donated by Rep. Martha Jane King.

The entertainment was provided by nationally known comedian Marty Pollio.
