If the Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s Coffee & Networking hour Wednesday morning at Logan County Public Library’s new building is as well-received and well-attended as was its grand opening on Sunday, Feb. 23, it will be an overwhelming success.
With the rave reviews the new building has been receiving in the two months since it opened on Armory Drive, there’s no reason to believe this event won’t be something special, too.
A large crowd turned out for that open house Feb. 23. The Chamber was involved in that, too, with a joyous ribbon cutting. The Chamber’s Lisa Browning and April Triplett made sure it happened smoothly.
Director King Simpson emceed a program in which those who played key roles were recognized and memories abounded of all the work that had gone into making the new building a reality.
Among those who spoke were state library construction consultant Chris Bischoff, state library director Wayne Onkst, Jeffrey Pearson of Pearson & Peters Architects, Matthew Elder of Redlee Construction, retired regional librarian and Logan library volunteer supreme Evelyn Richardson, and Obie Van Cleave, who was president of the library board during most of the time the new building was being designed and built.
King and Van Cleave were joined by current board president Jennifer Wilcutt in cutting the ribbon.
Memories abounded of former Library Director Linda Kompanik, who died just a few months before the move was made to the new building. It was clear that the building would not have been completed any time close to as soon if had not been for her dedication and persistence.
Coffee & Networking will be held from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
