We tend to associate antique engines and tractors with antique people. We envision long-time farmers collecting worn-out tractors associated with their youth and restoring them to what they looked like when their new owners were much younger.
We also picture big guys with big toys—turning huge work machines into play things so that they can win tractor pulls, either with vintage tractors or modern machines possessing the power of an earthmover.
Yet events like the annual Logan County Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Show—held last week at McCutchen-Coke Park in Auburn, as always—also have great appeal for youngsters. The youngsters find grand sights at which to marvel and fun events to enjoy.
Take Lucas Gann, who lives in Alvaton community near the Allen County-Warren County line with his parents, Tony and Brandi Gann, and his little sister Sophia. Lucas, 6, is a student at Alvaton Elementary School.
He was in Auburn Saturday with his granddad, John “Papa John” Brawner of the same area, and his aunt, Amanda “Auntie A” Brawner of Glendale.
Lucas enjoyed everything about his visit to the tractor show. He marveled at the Tractor Parade, sat on big tractors at the static displays, competed hard in the Kiddle Pull on a peddle tractor, and proudly took home a blue ribbon (as did all the other Kiddie Pull competitors) to show Mom and Dad.
