The Logan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting Sept. 13 at the Logan County Extension Office. Following the meal catered by the Logan County FFA, President Jeremy Robertson presided over the program and business meeting.
Farm Bureau State Board Member and Magistrate Russell Poore introduced special guests including State Senator Whitney Westerfield and State Rep. Martha Jane King, Sandra Potter representing Senator Mitch McConnell’s office, District Judge Sue Carroll Browning, Assistant Logan County Attorney Ken Williams, Logan County Judge Executive Logan Chick, City Councilman Jack Whipple, Logan County FFA advisors Jay Campbell & Bryan Estes, Magistrates: Thomas Bouldin, Jack Crossley, Drexel Johnson and Jo Orange. Boyce Coles, retired Farm Bureau Insurance agent, and Todd Bright, KYFB Federation Director of Communication Division, were introduced and each gave a few remarks.
The 2014 Outstanding Youth and Variety judges were Laura Belcher from Daymar College, Warren County Ag Extension Agent Joanna Coles, and former Outstanding Youth winner Catie Martin. Jennifer Jenkins was the timekeeper.
Joe Rogan, KYFB district 4 Program Director, moderated the Outstanding Youth contest. The female winner was Lillie Robertson. The 1st runner up was Ashley Brinkley and 2nd runner up was Ann-Meguiar Bouldin. The male winner was Wesley Estes. The 1st runner up was Andrew Milam, 2nd runner up was Zach Brinkley and 3rd runner up was Dru Brown.
Tabitha Robertson introduced the Variety cntestants. The Variety winner was Ann-Meguiar Bouldin. The Variety 1st runner up was Harley Robertson and the 2nd runner up was the duo of Rebecca and Emily Holt.
April Engler from Auburn Elementary School spoke about the mini grant the Auburn Jr. FFA Chapter won to construct four garden beds they have started.
The 2014 Institute for Future Agricultural Leader participant, Wesley Estes, spoke about his experience at UK this summer. Thomas Pool and Rachel Simmons were recognized for winning 2014 KYFB scholarships for $1,000 each. Thomas also won a Logan County FB scholarship for $500.
John Alcott presented the following policy development resolutions, which were adopted and will be sent to the Kentucky Farm Bureau Annual Meeting for consideration as Farm Bureau policy:
1. We encourage legislation to put a moratorium on the EPA regulations on the coal industry as it applies to the power production. We want to keep electricity affordable for farmers, other businesses and families.
2. We support keeping “House Bill 44” as is.
3. We would like to see the Clean Water Act stay as is. We want the term “Navigable Water” not to be removed from the Clean Water Act language. We support the American Farm Bureau’s “It’s Time to Ditch the Rule” proposal.
4. We support the efforts of the “Hunters for Hunger” organization, to help control the deer population.
Darlynn Moore gave a brief presentation about the local member benefit program that started Oct. 1, 2014. The information will be in the membership billing, on the kyfb.com website and in the Farm Bureau Office.
Frances Brown presented the Nominating Committee Report. The following officers were elected for 2015: President Jeremy Robertson; 1st Vice President Jay Campbell; 2nd Vice President Jonathan Brown; Treasurer Albert Brown; Women’s Chairman Carrell Hughes; Women’s Co-Chairman Tabitha Robertson; Young Farmers Chairman, Trent Martin.
The directors elected for a two-year term were John Alcott, Bradley Brown, Frances Brown, Jerry Hughes, Ray Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson, Jay Campbell, Patsy Poore, Albert Brown, Brad Hall, Trent Martin and Thomas Poole. Wesley Estes was elected as an Honorary Board Member for one year representing the Logan County FFA Chapter. The directors with one year to serve are: Earl Costellow, Bobby Dawson, Leo Duncan, Dwight Grise, Richard Moore, Russell Poore, Jonathan Brown, Daniel Gaston and Gary Jenkins.
The scholarship donations totaled $470. Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting was adjourned.
