The weekend before Thanksgiving is always a special time in Logan County, and for over a decade part of that charm has come from the Logan County Arts and Crafts Club’s two-day holiday show and sale, known as Christmas in November.
This year’s Christmas in November will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m.-4p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Russellville Recreation Center, also known as “the old armory.”
This year’s craft show and sale is dedicated to the memory of Joan Dixon of Adairville, who before her death this fall was a fixture at Christmas in November from its beginning in 2001. She was the mother of Elaine Dixon, who has chaired the event every year.
Dixon is one of two remaining member exhibitors of the Arts & Crafts club since it organized. The other is Elaine Turner, who has been part of the show every year along with her daughter Lindsay, as has Dixon. Both of those booths feature paintings on a variety of surfaces as well as other creations.
The idea behind this show and sale is that the vendors sell what they have made, instead of buying and selling their wares.
Long-time vendors Linda Chapman and Tommye Brown will return for another year with a large variety of wreaths and other Christmas items.
Among those returning are local scenes artist Sonny Green, wooden toy maker Donno Yarnell, and Kay Isenberg Fisher, who makes wreaths with colorful bows.
Others scheduled to be part of the show are Susan Inman, Shayna O’Kelley, Tammy Hymer, Brooke Wright Scarbrough, and the mother-daughter team of Leanna Bunting and Jessica West.
“We should have a variety of Christmas ornaments, paintings and floral arrangements,” Dixon says.
There is no charge for admission. Door prizes will be given.
Sunday afternoon will also be the time for many merchants in Russellville to hold their Christmas open houses.
