For the 15th straight weekend before Thanksgiving, the Logan County Arts and Crafts Club’s two-day holiday show and sale, known as Christmas in November, will be one of the highlights of the extended holiday season.
This year’s Christmas in November will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Russellville Recreation Center, also known as “the old armory,” at 190 Winter Street next to the post office.
As always, Elaine Dixon of Adairville is the guiding force behind this show. She selects the vendors, secures the site, handles the publicity and does whatever else is necessary for a show of the magnitude.
Dixon is one of two remaining member exhibitors of the Arts & Crafts club since it organized in 2001. The other is Elaine Turner, who has been part of the show every year along with her daughter Lindsay, as has Dixon. Both of those booths feature paintings on a variety of surfaces as well as other creations.
The idea behind this show and sale is that the vendors sell what they have made, instead of buying and selling their wares.
Long-time vendors Linda Chapman and Tommye Brown will return for another year with a large variety of wreaths and other Christmas items. Several other crafts people return for another year.
“We are packed this year!” Dixon says. “We have 20 booths of numerous Christmas items, embroidery, several types of jewelry; body washes and scrubs; hand-sewn items; woodcrafts; hand painted items; Brooke’s Bakery baked goods; wreaths and flower arrangements; knitted and crocheted items- to name a few! “
There is no charge for admission. Door prizes will be given.
“One highlight of our show this year—The Friends of the Logan County Public Library will be having a gift wrapping booth!” Dixon says. “For a fee, you can have gifts wrapped that were either bought at the show or bought from other places. Their funds will go for projects for the library.”
Sunday afternoon will also be the time for many merchants in Russellville to hold their Christmas open houses.
