Logan County High School FFA members Zach Brinkley and Andrew Milam have both won top awards in the region. They are the Regional Star Farmer and Regional Star in Ag-Business.
They both will be interviewed at state convention on June 5-9, 2017. They will be asked questions on their SAE projects and it will be determined who is State Star Farmer and Star Ag-Business.
A look at the two ‘Stars’ follows:
Andrew Milam - Star Farmer
As a freshman at Logan County High School, Andrew took Introduction to Agriculture with Mr. Jay Campbell. He attended chapter meetings, cookings, and contests. Through the next three years he excelled in speaking contests and other team contests including Ag Sales and Parliamentary Procedure. He grew into a leader as the President of our chapter his senior year, Sentinel his junior year and Committee Chairman his sophomore year.
From Committee reports to Parly contests and practices, he has shown the knowledge of Agriculture and leadership in FFA. With his duties in FFA, he also managed to care and show for his own Angus beef cattle. While managing his operation, Andrew has done an outstanding job as a cattle salesman and showman. With all of this considered, we are proud to call him Logan County FFA President.
Zach Brinkley - Star Ag-Business
Zach is currently serving as Logan County FFA Vice-President. As a freshman in Mr. Campbell’s Introduction to Agriculture class he excelled in speeches and other contests. He continued to stay involved in FFA for the next three years competing and winning contests in Turf and Lawn Care speeches, Ag Sales, and judging different livestock. As a junior, he was Senior Parliamentarian and as a sophomore he was a Committee Chairman.
Along with all these achievements, he manages to work for Wilson Farms. Since his freshman year, he has grown and cared for giant watermelons and pumpkins. He has also worked at the Brown Family Farm working with cattle, row crops, tobacco seeding process, and countless straw loads. He has put in many hours working in the fields. He has gained much experience for the career he wants to pursue as a crop consultant. We are very proud to call him Logan County FFA Vice-President.
