On Monday, July 17, Stevenson Elementary School kindergarten teachers, (pictured in #4 – (r to l) Tina Olson, Connie Southerland, Kelsey Sullivan, Melissa Stahl, Carly Shoemake, and Rhanda McKinney boarded Leslie Taylor’s RIS school bus to begin the pick-up of the incoming Kindergarten students for the “Kick-Off to Kindergarten Week.”
These teachers desire to help get a jumpstart to school with providing the students a week to become familiar with their new school building, the staff, and experience typical school-day activities and practices.
The parents/guardians were able to meet with Principal Robin Cornelius and their child’s teacher to receives answers to any questions they had regarding the 2017-2018, new school year.
Teachers began to build relationships with their students and observe their skills and strengths. Students began to learn activities in their classrooms, their lunch numbers, cafeteria routines, and visited the playground. Parents/guardians were given information on Kindergarten-readiness and were provided materials and guidance on building a home library.
Getting a “Jumpstart to school” will help these kindergarten students learn school readiness behaviors and become more comfortable with Stevenson’s environment.
Stevenson Elementary also is excited to announce their first “Home-Visit Blitz” on Monday, July 24, from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Prior to the beginning of school, all Stevenson teachers will make visits to the homes of students to introduce themselves and say, “Hi, welcome to a new school year!” They will deliver beginning-of-school registration packets, school supply lists, and information about the “Back-to-School Ice Cream Bash” at Stevenson.
SES staff looks forward to visiting parents and meeting some of them for the first time. If students happen to not be at home on the home-visit day, teachers will leave the information at the door! Any students who return their completed beginning-of-school registration packet at the “Back-to-School Ice Cream Bash” scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 1, 5-8 p.m., will receive a pencil pouch containing some supply goodies!
Russellville Independent School Students’ first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 8.
