The A Cappella Singers, the premier choral ensemble at Lipscomb University in Nashville, will be in concert at Crittenden Drive Church of Christ Wednesday at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend a special evening of music.
Comprised of 65 members from various degree programs across campus, the group performs a wide selection of musical genres and styles each year, including sacred a cappella and major choral works with orchestra. Recent choral/orchestral performances have included Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Faure’s Requiem.
Convention and juried performances by the A Cappella Singers have included the Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association; Tennessee Music Educators Association State Conference; The Ascending Voice, An International Symposium of Sacred A Cappella Music; and Florence International Music Festival in Florence, Italy.
The group and Director Gary Wilson will spend the evening in homes of members of the congregation. Rob and Carole Sindorf have coordinated their stay, and Angie Parsley is in charge of a meal for the group.
Several recordings have been made by the A Cappella Singers. These are available after most performances, or may be ordered from the Department of Music at Lipscomb University.
“Several young people from our community have performed with this group in the past while students at Lipscomb, but there isn't anyone currently in the group,” Carole Sindorf says. “(The Sindorfs’ son) Nathan was with them when they went to Florence and is one of the singers on one of their CDs. They also went to Rome, Venice and Vienna on that tour in 2008.”
From Russellville, the Lipscomb chorus will go to Foundation Christian Academy in Bowling Green, Southridge High School in Huntingburg, Ind., Center Road Church of Christ in Kokomo, Ind., and Northeast Church of Christ in Cincinnati.
Their hosts in Ohio will be Logan County native Joel Campbell and his wife Joy.
