Family Resource Center Coordinator Carol Kees and Guidance Counselor Ashley Staggs collaborated together to invite prominent members from the community to come to Stevenson Elementary School and share information about their professions with K-5th grade students recently.
Because there was a constant shifting of presenters, the grade levels never saw the same speakers and had opportunities to learn about a variety of careers. The students had the chance to speak with bankers, entrepreneurs, police officers, realtors, and more. Such a simplicity as bringing in people from the community personalizes the connection and learning at Career Day.
The students were excited to ask questions, and the professionals were happy to separate fact from fiction. The advice from the adults always geared down to knowing the importance of saving, working hard, and being an open communicator.
This form of career readiness gives children insight and might inspire some to help determine what career paths they may pursue in the future!
The following is a list of parents/community members whom shared their careers, informing students what it takes to do what they do: Kenneth Edmonds, Seth Whitaker, Ryan Brown, and Mary Smith- Police Department; Krystal Gunderson-FSNB; Cary Boisseau and Stephanie Cole-US Bank; Leon Smith-Education; Molly Meacham-Dental Hygienist, Dr. Darla Barrow-Optometrist; Dana Bird-OTA Sky Rehab & owns own gym; Ashley Elliott-Med Tech; Susan Lee-RN; Dr. Katherine Gilliam-D.O.
