Let’s do the DOCK TROT!
The Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission is excited to introduce a new FREE, family-friendly event that features live entertainment on beautiful Lake Malone. The first-ever “Lake Malone DOCK TROT”, featuring six (6) free concerts performed along the banks of the lake, will begin at 3pm Central Time on Sept. 21. The event will wrap up at 7 p.m. with a firework display at the beach at Lake Malone State Park.
To enjoy the event, launch a watercraft and embark on a free musical journey. Cruise along the Dock Trot route, navigating the waters from dock to dock, to discover the six locations where the live concerts will be being performed. Anchor for a bit and enjoy the music, then motor on over to the next Dock Trot Stop to hear another talented group of musicians. No boat? No problem! There are two “land or lake” options as the Lake Malone State Park and Shady Cliff Trot Stop concerts will also offer vehicle parking and lakeside seating. If the land option is preferred, concert-goers will want to bring a lawn chair.
The free concerts will begin at 3 p.m. and each band featured along the Dock Trot route will represent a unique musical style. Additionally, each of the groups performing will feature local musicians! Dock trotters will be entertained with genres spanning from country to gospel, and rock -n- roll to bluegrass. The Dock Trot route can be navigated from any direction and in any order, but to assist with the experience, each Dock Trot Stop has been color- coded and a map outlining the concert destinations is available.
One “land or lake” option, situated at the Lake Malone State Park, will play host to “Roy Kyle and Nite Life”. This group is known for its wide variety of popular country selections and dance favorites. Another “land or lake” concert option is located at the well-known Shady Cliff Restaurant. This trot stop will feature local group “181 South Band”, entertaining audiences with classic rock and newer country. Between these two “land or lake” concert options, 4 other locations are defined as follows:
The “Red Dock Trot Stop”, will feature Muhlenberg’s own singer/songwriter “Kelsey Hart” with a special performance by “Bristol Vincent”. South of the Red Dock Trot Stop, boaters will find the “Blue Dock Trot Stop” with live music provided by “You, Me, and Alice” with Dr. Jacob Clark in the mix. In the infamous “Whiskey Bay” area of the lake, boats can circle up to the “Yellow Dock Trot Stop” playing host to “Blue Monroes” featuring Misty Mountain String Band’s Derek Harris and Paul Martin. Located at the well-known “Boat Church”, just north of Shady Cliff, Muhlenberg natives “Higher Praise” will be providing award-winning southern gospel music at the “White Dock Trot Stop”.
All six Dock Trot concerts will be happening simultaneously during the 3-hour musical event. Following the concerts, thanks to the generous contributions of Bob Matthews Construction, Clinic Pharmacies, Lynelle Eaves Realty, and Wayne’s Place, at twilight the sky will come alive with a spectacular firework display. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 7 and will be located near the Lake Malone State Park beach area.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. “Like” and keep a check on the Muhlenberg County Tourism’s Facebook page for weather updates and event information.
