While the educational landscape has changed over the past several months, the staff members at Logan County High School have embraced the challenges brought about as a result of the shift. In addition to adapting teaching practices for both a hybrid model and a virtual schedule, teachers are utilizing Flex Fridays to meet the needs of individual and small groups of students each week.
Flex Fridays are open to all LCHS students, and the teachers are available to help with anything the students need. Dedicated time for each content area (English, math, science, and social studies) is set from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for students who need to work with multiple teachers, but staff members are accessible all day to meet the logistical needs of families.
“Our Fridays offer students an opportunity to get direct one-on-one help that may not be accessible during the week,” said LCHS teacher Heather Rathert. “We hope even more students will take advantage of it as we go throughout the year.”
Co-curricular organizations (JROTC, FFA, FBLA, etc.) are also provided time on Friday afternoons to meet to ensure students have access to these valuable organizations and the life lessons they provide.
Advanced notice is required for participation in order for small groups to meet the Healthy at School guidelines which include smaller class sizes and social distancing requirements. Specific information, including directions for signing up for sessions, is provided through the guidance department and each teacher’s Google Classroom page.
