Our hearts and prayers go out to the faculty, staff, and students who were in the devastating tornado in Moore, Okla., last Monday. The city of Moore, state of Oklahoma, and nation are pulling together to support the efforts to rebuild their community.

Russellville Schools would like to support the efforts by collecting anonymous donations to send to the Salvation Army to be used to support the schools that were devastated by this tragic weather event. If you would like to contribute, donations will be accepted at the addressees below until Friday, May 31. All funds will be sent to the Salvation Army on behalf of the Russellville Schools and Russellville and Logan County community.

As a member of the Russellville Board of Education, a parent, and a grandparent, I am very much taken aback by the devastation in Oklahoma. I certainly do not relish the idea of collecting funds, but in this case I can think of no better cause. I am sending out these messages in blank to request a donation to assist primarily the school children and their families and teachers. There have been heroic actions to protect these children, but there are still obvious and pressing needs.

I am simply asking for a donation of any amount that you consider comfortable making. I have chosen to ask that checks be made payable to "Salvation Army" and indicate that the check is for "Oklahoma Tornado Relief" or "Oklahoma Tornado Schools Relief." Every little bit will help and will be an indication of the tradition of Logan Countians to care for neighbors regardless of their location. I do believe that this is a worthwhile cause.

We know many may have already contributed to their individual charities, community, and church organizations. We are fortunate to live in this great nation, where, in times of tragedy, we pull together to lend a helping hand.
