CharacterWorks is a campaign that is focusing on character development of our youth and families of Logan County. CharacterWorks will provide support and recognize our youth that exhibit strong character such as self-control, initiative, patience and respect.
Each month, Logan County highlights a specific character trait. Watch for signs throughout Logan County that display our character word for the month.
July is Justice month. Justice means taking personal responsibility to uphold what is pure, right and true.
August is Gentleness- “showing consideration and personal concern for others”
Throughout each month, businesses, organizations, the newspapers and radio station, the churches and schools will focus on the character trait. The citizens of Logan County will see the character word on signs, emails and newsletters.
Last year, our schools nominated students of character which were recognized each month. Those students were also invited to a county-wide celebration where students and their families enjoyed food, music and received a citizenship medal.
On July 28, 2012, Logan County Judge Executive Logan Chick, along with other government leaders, announced that Logan County is an official County of Character.
We are in the process of planning our anniversary event to “re-boost” our campaign.
It will be on Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., on Summer Street next to the RHS football field. We will have a Christian rock band, free hot dogs for the first 100 school age children, free games and prizes.
CharacterWorks’ purpose is to provide a unified focus on supporting and recognizing our young leaders of tomorrow. Through a strong mission, our youth will benefit because they will realize that having strong character is so important to one’s success that our entire county is behind CharacterWorks.
Our current planning/advisory committee includes Steve Matthews, Leon Smith, Sandra Kinser, Paula Timberlake, Alicia Carmichael and Mayor Mark Stratton.
