This fall two of our county schools updated their no smoking policy to a tobacco free campus policy, including E-cigarettes. The local Youth Action Team of Logan County Inc. secured funding through mini grants to purchase signage for each school. I have attached a picture from Lewisburg (Principal Randy Marcum, School Nurse Lashawnda Lee) with the sign in the Lewisburg gym.
The other picture is from Auburn Elementary and it features the wellness committee with Principal David Ward and Health Educator Selina Blick presenting a smoke free certificate and the new tobacco signage behind David and Selina.
This is important especially now because the statewide smoke-free bill will hopefully be voted on during this legislative session. I have included the message from Smoke-Free KY below.
Kentucky Representatives Susan Westrom (D) and David Watkins (D) have filed HB145, a bill for a comprehensive statewide smoke-free workplace law in Kentucky. In order to promote HB145, Smoke-free Kentucky is hosting an Advocacy Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Advocacy Day will take place from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m., and interested individuals can register to attend here. SFKY asks that all Advocacy Day participants register before Feb. 2.
