Ice Cream Ice Cream-- We all scream for ice cream--especially on a hot July afternoon or evening. And what is more enjoyable than sitting with family, friends, and neighbors enjoying a cold dish of ice cream?
On Wednesday, July 22, First Christian Church on West 7th Street in Russellville, will be hosting "An Evening of Sumptuous Sweets." Those "sumptuous sweets" include pies, cakes, candy and cookies along with that cool, delicious ice cream. Serving begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
If you don't have time to eat, carryout will be available. Also, you might even want to take a carryout to shut-in or a friend.
Wednesday evening's "Sumptuous Sweets" is a fundraiser for Good Samaritan-- tickets will not be sold, but donations will be accepted. Donations from this event for the last two years have averaged $1,400. 100 percent of the donated monies will be given to Good Sam.
In 2014, Good Samaritan provided $56,000 of financial assistance to Logan Countians; payments go toward utilities and rent. Also, Good Samaritan assists an average of 487 families each month with food. Not only does Good Samaritan assists with these, but also with helping senior citizens and disabled citizens to file for the Senior / Disabled Low-Income Water Discount. During tax time, Good Samaritan also assists in helping individuals and families file their tax return. Currently, Director Denise McDonald is providing a financial workshop to help clients manage their paychecks.
A combination of churches, businesses, and organizations help support Good Samaritan's programs: Support ranges from financial contributions, food donations, and volunteers. United Way also provides financial support.
Organized in 1997, Good Samaritan has grown to meet the needs of Logan County's citizens.
So eat a light lunch on Wednesday and come dine. Not only will you be getting a "sugar rush," but you will also be benefitting a great local cause. Molten chocolate lava cake, pecan pie, Lillie's fresh coconut cake, chocolate pound cake, chocolate chip cookie dough-all are awaiting your arrival.
