RHS Principal's Report for Sept. 24

I just wanted to take a minute and describe how wonderful Homecoming Week was here at Russellville. Having come from some larger districts, I have regrettably seen the disappearance of Homecoming Week activities that give students connections to the school beyond the normal school day. But that was not the case here as we had a bonfire, a town square pep rally, a Homecoming dance that was packed, and a great game (that we won).

These types of activities are dying outside of the boarders of our town, but anyone who was at the dance Friday night would tell you that we must protect them. They give our students memories that go so far beyond the pictures we take on our phones and the moments we post on social media about. What we had this past week for our students were life experiences that will stay with them all of their lives. It was a wonderful week!

STAR Benchmark Testing Week

Monday through Wednesday many of our students will be STAR Benchmark testing. This test, which takes about a class period to complete and is done on a computer, is the foundational measurement of our school-wide effort to continually improve the READING of ALL of our students. There has been a concentrated effort by all of our faculty to incorporate reading practices across ALL subject areas. The STAR test is our scoreboard by which we track the fruits of our labors.

Russellville Ready

Russellville Ready, a program designed at preparing Russellville Seniors for real life outside the walls of high school and building upon the academic foundations of regular education and expanding it in areas of social, citizenship, and interpersonal skills, kicks into high gear this week. Seniors will take the US Citizenship Test this Friday during a “Deep Dive” Day in which they will focus on several of criteria skills of Russellville Ready.

Fall Break

It’s the last week of school before we all take a little breather and enjoy Fall Break (even if it feels like summer out there!). The only calendared activity scheduled for Fall Break at this point is:

Soccer, Thursday, 5:30 p.m., Home v. Hopkins Co. Central

Soccer Senior Night and Middle School Football Night

Tuesday night is Soccer Senior Night at Rhea Stadium. The Panthers take on Todd Central

Thursday is 8th Grade Night for the Middle School Football team at Rhea. The Panthers take on Hopkinsville.

Archery Meeting and Baseball Interest Sign Ups

On Oct. 16, there will be an Archery meeting at 6 p.m. in the school Cafeteria.

Coach Tyler Meacham will have a table set up each morning this week before school at which any high school student who may be interested in baseball may sign up and provide contact information.

In the Middle School Clash of the Cats, the Russellville Lady Panther Softball team used great defense, hot bats, and great teamwork as they defeated Logan County 8-5 and 6-1 in a double header at home on Monday night.

Student Expectations

All classrooms in Russellville JR/SR HS have been working on creating a universal understanding of the five fundamental expectations for students at Russellville. These are:

1.     Be Kind

2.     Show Respect

3.     Do the right thing.

4.     Get after it.
