RHS Principal's Report for Oct. 8

As we close up Fall Break, and the leaves begin to change colors and the evening air takes on a cooler crispness, hopefully everyone had a restful time off and recharged the batteries a bit! Heading into the second quarter of the school year, there is the excitement that comes with the holiday seasons, playoffs for some and beginnings of new seasons for others, and a settling into the academic routines of the school year.

I think I must agree with the sentiment that author L.M. Montgomery expressed in her masterpiece Anne of Green Gables when she wrote, “I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” May this autumn be the best yet for all of us!

RVK Science Once Again Drawing Higher Ed To Russellville

Just over a month after RVK Science teacher Robbie McLellan brought national attention to the campus of RJSHS through his work with NASA and several visiting Universities for the eclipse, now colleague Tanya Mullen (RHS Science teacher) brings even more scientific attention to the school.

This Thursday, the Russellville Jr./Sr. High School Panther Aquaculture/Aquaponics program, in conjunction with Kentucky State University, will have activities and presentations  for the students throughout the day involving Aquaculture, Drones in Agriculture, Careers in Agriculture, Bee Keeping and the Culinary Arts, and Organic Farming.

The day will serve as a celebration of the combined efforts of many RJSHS faculty, staff and students as well as Kentucky State University and Dr. Nancy Dawson, who have been the key players in making the RHS Aquaculture dream a reality. They have provided the equipment, staff, time and valuable training to make this program a successful venture. The activities surrounding the development of the aquaculture project that will allow students to work with fish, horticulture, and environmental biological cycles in real time and in a hands-on manner on the campus of the school.   

Short Week

This week will be a Wednesday through Friday week for students. Faculty return for professional development on Monday and Tuesday.

Archery Meeting

On Oct. 16, there will be an Archery meeting at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Sports Happenings

The Russellville Middle School Lady Panther Softball team closed out their season with a run at the State Tournament. The Lady Panthers defeated Carlisle Co. 7-5 in the opening round. They then defeated Christian County 5-4 to advance to the quarterfinals where they fell to a tough Warren East team. The Lady Panthers finished the season 19-7.

The Panther Football team was awarded a 1-0 victory over Fulton County, whose administration deemed that they were without sufficient numbers on their team due to attrition of injuries to play Friday night’s game. As a result, the Panthers move to 1-0 in their District and Fulton County has agreed to travel to Russellville in 2018, a game that was originally to be played at Fulton. This Friday, the Panthers return to action as they take on Fulton City at Fulton City.

It was senior night success for the Panther Soccer team. The Panthers took down visiting Todd County Central 7-2. The win saw the Panthers score the most goals of the season while also holding an opponent to their lowest total of the season.

Rhea Stadium will host the 13^th District Soccer Tournament this week. The Panthers take on Logan County on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the 8^th Grade Football Team cruised to a 44-14 win over Hopkins County Central in the first round of the Middle School Playoffs. This Saturday, the Panthers will travel to Owensboro to take on Owensboro Catholic in the 2^nd Round.

Russellville will honor the 50 Greatest Football Players of All Time on Saturday as part of the Tobacco Festival activities. A meet and greet will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the high school with ceremonies to take place at 5pm.

Student Expectations

All classrooms in Russellville JR/SR HS have been working on creating a universal understanding of the five fundamental expectations for students at Russellville. These are:
