Every day at 3:05, an excited group of Lewisburg students gather in the cafeteria to prepare for one of two after-school programs. Students have the opportunity to participate in the 21st Century Community Learning Program, a program that is in its fourth year of programming or the Boys and Girls Club, a new endeavor for the K-8th grade school.

For the 2024-2025 school year, the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green reached out to Lewisburg School seeking to build on to their after-school program. The opportunity to provide mentoring, additional academic support, and creative enrichments prompted school administration to immediately partner with the non-profit organization.

Each day, the Boys and Girls Club staff travel to Lewisburg School and work with students beyond the classroom. Last year, they served a handful of students, but they are proud to announce that enrollment this year has increased tremendously. In addition, rather than offering the programming four days a week, they have extended their services to Friday afternoons.

Throughout the school year, students engage in a number of activities such as making slime, building model boats, participating in outdoor activities, and so much more! The Boys and Girls Club also has a Christmas Angel Program that provides Christmas gifts for all participants. The Christmas Party was an exciting event for Lewisburg students! All year long, participants are collaborating and connecting with each other while growing their strengths in numerous ways!

The fun does not stop at the end of the school year! The Boys and Girls Club also offered an exciting Summer Camp for students. Students enjoyed arts and crafts, board games, and field trips to Jump Air Zone and Russel Sims Water Park. They are excited to see the summer program grow each year!

Alaina Hallums, staff member of the Boys and Girls Club, states, “We were so excited about bringing the Boys and Girls Club to Logan County, and Lewisburg has been the perfect school to start at. So much of the Boys and Girls Club is about teaching children life skills, hobbies, and most importantly giving children the opportunity to build strong bonds of friendship with others they might otherwise have never met. We have enjoyed watching these friendships grow and thrive at Lewisburg school. There is something so rewarding in seeing the older kids connect with the younger ones as though they had all been close friends for years. We strive to foster these connections and encourage children to step outside of their comfort zones. We can’t wait to see what happens next!”

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” (https://www.bgcbg.org/our-mission-and-history/) Their vision and mission align with Lewisburg School’s belief in building brighter futures for all the students. This partnership has created a strong connection between the school and community.

Moving forward, the Boys and Girls Club would like to expand their partnership among the entire Logan County community. If you would like to contact the Boys and Girls Club, you may call 270-843-6466.

Lewisburg School looks forward to continuing this partnership that is helping students learn, grow, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
