Senior Deep Dive Day #1 in the Books
On Friday 9/20, RHS Seniors filed into the Russellville 21st Century Center (R21C) for their first Deep Dive Day. Deep Dive Days at RHS focus on three major components of growth for seniors: (1) The ability to work collaboratively, (2) The awareness and acts of giving back to their community, and (3) The ability to communicate and express themselves in a professional and clear manner.
Members of the Russellville community joined in and worked with groups of seniors as mentors and coaches as each group made the decision as to what project they wanted to take on for their community service aspect of Russellville Ready. Programs that ranged from work with Special Olympics to community clean-ups displayed an acute awareness by this group of Seniors.
STAR Testing
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, freshman - junior students who scored below Proficient on the Benchmark STAR assessments for Reading and Math will take a Progress Monitoring test in their English and Math classes. RISD uses STAR testing across the district to monitor student growth towards proficiency. All students at RHS in grades nine through eleven take three Benchmark STAR exams. Seniors at RHS do not take STAR testing as that the majority of their focus is on their transition readiness for college, employment, and life beyond High School. Student STAR reports are sent home after each of these benchmarks to allow parents to see just where their child is relative to STAR's national database of over a million students tested.
Cornerstone Final Exams
Beginning on Tuesday of next week (Oct. 1), all students at RHS will take Cornerstone Final Exams in their English, Math, Science, and Social Studies classes. These exams have been created by their teachers and every question on each exam has been specifically identified as to what KY State Academic Standard it is measuring. Each core content department at RMS and RHS has worked collaboratively to identify three to six Standards per Quarter that are "Priority Standards". A "Standard:" KY's education system is a singular learning objective designed by the Kentucky Department of Education in conjunction with the US Department of Education.
The identified Priority Standards drive instruction in the classrooms at RMS and RHS and are supported by many other standards that work in conjunction with them. Each of these discipline's Priority Standards can be found HERE on RHS's web-page. These Cornerstone exams are designed to be highly rigorous and build upon one another, so that each Quarter, first through the third, students take a cumulative final that assesses their understanding and ability to apply what they have learned. Students will NOT take a Cornerstone Exam at the end of the 4th Quarter as that KPREP, ACT, On-Demand Writing, and Proficiency Testing take place at the end of the year.

Take a look at the next two weeks’ worth of ATHLETIC events happening at RHS. Lots of great chances to see our student athletes getting after it! Worth noting, there is not a Volleyball Senior Night because there are no current seniors on the volleyball team team, which has already won several games this year! Also, be on the lookout for Soccer's Senior Night and RMS Football's 8th Grade Night in the coming weeks.
