RHS Ambassadors formed to support, promote school
Russellville High School has formed the RHS Ambassadors, stu-dents "dedicated to providing support to administrative staff, giving tours, facilitating events and delivering presentations about RHS to the community." Brandon Blake is the program advisor.
The inaugural Ambassadors: Matieh Black, Allison Blythe, Kate Bouldin, Mallory Bush, Lucas Celsor, Phelicia Clemons, Chris Collier, Phillip Crawford, Rachel Fischer, Dominique Harris, Sydney Herndon, Britny Lyne, Chris Matthews, Allison McDaniel, Carlie Morphew, Jada Morris, Kelsie Patterson, Johnea Pendleton, Derrick Porter, Madison Rose, Nick Scarbrough, Katlyn Suiter and Mollie Thompson.

Natcher Parkway Extension to open this week
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet along with state and local officials will celebrate the completion of the Natcher Parkway Ex-tension with a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. The public is invited.
The 2.5 mile section of new highway extends the Natcher Parkway past its previous terminus at Interstate 65 to a T-intersection with Scottsville Road. The $37.8 M project was let to Scotty’s in November 2009 and will be open to traffic immediately following the ribbon-cutting.
Those interested in attending the event should access the site from the Scottsville Road end of the project. Department of Highway personnel will be on hand to assist with parking attendees. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Olde Stone located at 950 Village Way.

Panther Party scheduled for Saturday night
Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. the annual Russellville High School Panther Party will begin. This event benefits RHS Athletics & Band Boosters. Tickets are $50, which includes dinner for two catered by Roy's BBQ. Based on 300 tickets sold, there is a $5,000 grand cash prize. Live and silent auctions will be held. Tickets are available from any RHS coach or band booster.

RHS seniors honored in final home game Friday
Russellville High School honored its senior fall athletes and band members along with their parents before the Clash of the Cats Friday. Among those honored were volleyball players Kaneitha Bigbee, Imani Hampton, Passion Townend, football players Drew Hayes, Dequan Johnson, Matthew Marshall, Seth Washington, Nate Webb; golfers Davis Pardue, John David Reeves, Caleb Wills;; cheerleaders T.K. Griffin, Joanna Long, Brooke Shoemake, Megan Woodson; and band members Laura Brown, Lucas Celsor, Frankie Galvin, Brandon Jennett, Emily Rohrer, Taylor Swallow and Ethan Shutt.

Airport Day set today at R'ville-Logan County field
The Russellville-Logan County Airport will have Airport Day today from 11-4. A classic car show, entertainment for kids, antique airplanes, food & refreshments and aerobatic demonstrations by Steve Johnson are available for viewing by the public. The new terminal is on display.

Cougars come back to beat RHS in Clash 32-21
Logan County came back from a 21-6 halftime deficit to beat homestanding Russellville 32-21 Friday in the Clash of the Cats. Quarterback Ian Woodall ran for one touchdown and connected with Twin Lancaster on two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.Korey Jaynes kicked two extra points. Barrett Croslin, Woodall's teammate on the Little League World Series team of two years ago, ran for a touchdown, passed to Seth Washington for another, and intercepted a pass for Russellville before leaving the game in the first half, still groggy from a head injury suffered against Mayfield last week. Justin Rone intercepted a pass for Logan, and Christian Naylorpicked one off for RHS. The game ended Logan's season. Russellville hosts Bethlehem in the play-offs next week.

Tonight's Clash of the Cats considered a toss-up
If The Courier-Journal's Litratings are correct, tonight's Clash of the Cats at Rhea Stadium will be a close one. Logan County, which has a 3-6 record while playing a Class 5A schedule, is a two-tenths of a point favorite over the Panthers, who are 5-4 while playing in Class A. Russellville has won six straight Cat Clashes following four consecutive wins in the crosstown confrontation by the Cougars. Game time is at 7 tonight and will be carried live over WRUS with a replay Saturday at 2 p.m.

Middle School Jamboree starts b'ball season Saturday
Middle School Basketball: Jamboree will be held at LCHS Saturday. Admission will be $4. Games will consist of four nine-minute quarters; the clock will not stop except for the last minute of each half provided the deficit is fewer than 10 points. Halftime will be five minutes; the scoreboard will be cleared at the end of each quarter

I nternet Savvy class offered by Community Ed
Community Education is offering a "becoming Internet Savvy" class in November. This class will be held on Mondays, November 7, 14, and 21 from 6-8 p.m., in room 226, Logan County High School. Use entrance #6, in the back of the school. The class is being taught byAbbi Brown, who teaches several computer technology classes at LCHS. Class fee: $30. Bibs ‘n’ Banjos Bluegrass Festival today in L'burg
Bibs 'n' Banjo Bluegrass Festival begins at 1 p.m. today in the Lewisburg City Complex with no admission fee. Performing will be James Lawson’s Bluegrass Band, Barry Silvey & Almost Blue-grass, Jeff Borders & Tyler Davenport and Nelson Harris & friends. Jeff Dye & Jim Stevenson will lead storytelling. Top tier teams win big; q'back Croslin injured
Russellville and Logan County suffered losses to two of the state's top teams Friday and the Panthers may have lost twice. Not only did defending Class A state champion Mayfield beat RHS 42-0, but sophomore quarterback Barrett Croslin was injured in the third quarter and had to be taken from the field by ambulance. Logan's offense was effective, scoring an impressive 33 points, the most points the 8-1 Dragons have given up this year, but Warren Central doubled that total with 68. LCHS is at RHS next week for the Clash of the Cats.
LCHS band offering Halloween concert Tuesday
The Logan County High School Band will present a Halloween concert Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the LCHS Commons Area. The doors open at 6 p.m.; hot dogs and snacks will be available. Admission is $5, or $3 for those wearing a costume.

LCHS graduate in WKU Homecoming court Saturday
Logan County High School graduate Marie Weldon is one of the 20 candidates for homecoming queen at Western Kentucky University. The queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game, which begins at 3 p.m. An agriculture major who is representing the group Block and Bridle, she is the daughter of Mike & Peggy Weldon of Russellville/Olmstead.

Greewood wins over Logan in regional finals again
For the 8hth time in the last nine years, Logan County reached the regional volleyball finals Thursday night, this time via 2-1 win over a good Bowling Green team in the semifinals. In seven of those eight years, the other finalist has been Greenwood. And for the 6th time in those seven seasons, the Lady Gators are champions again, beating the Lady Cougars in straight games. Logan has an 18-8 regional record over these nine years,

Monroe County ends Lady Panthers' volleyball season
The end of the volleyball season came Tuesday night when Coach Terricka Quarles; Panthers fell 25-10, 25-11 to Monroe County. RHS, the 13th District runner-up, finished 14-22.

Lady Cougars advance to regional semifinals again
Logan County and Bowling Green began the 2011 season Aug. 9 by playing each other (LCHS won 26-24, 25-23). One of them will see its season end against the other Thursday when they meet at 5:30 p.m. In the 4th Region semifinals at Allen County. Logan is in the semis for the 11th straight season after winning over Metcalfe County 25-15, 25-17 Monday while BGH won 25-21, 25-17 over Edmonson County.

New LCHS assessment plan to be explained Oct. 20
Logan County High School and the National Center for Education & the Economy (NCEE) will sponsor an information session on the “Excellence for All” program, formerly known as the Board Exami-nation System at the LCHS Auxiliary Gym from 6-7 p.m. Thurs-day, Oct. 20. David Osborne, NCEE's state engagement manager, E. Jason Dougal, chief operating officer, and James Williams, engagement manager, will be here to discuss with parents, students, and the community the aspects and the purpose of the pilot program, the benefits that LCHS students will receive from the program, and the possible outcomes for our freshmen, says PrincipalCasey Jaynes..

Evening of Music & Tamales offered Friday
Main Street Russellville will present "An Evening of Music & Tama-les" Friday at 6 p.m. at Logan County Courthouse. Annual gospel singing Sunday at Crittenden Drive
The fourth annual gospel singing will be held from 2-4 p.m. at Crittenden Drive Church of Christ Sunday. The same three leaders of acappela congregational singing as last year will return. They are Steve McCarley of Franklin, Frank Walton of Allensville & Todd Walker of Murray.

Logan, RHS get favorable regional v'ball draws
Logan County and Russellville got the best draws available Saturday for the 4th Region Volleyball Tournament to be held at Allen County-Scottsville High School next week. The district champion Lady Cougars (25-8) will meet Metcalfe County (9-16) in Monday's opening round at 7 p.m. They are in the same bracket as two good teams, Edmonson County (30-6) and Bowling Green (22-13). Russellville (14-21) will face Monroe County (19-6) in the second game Tuesday. Defending champion Greenwood (21-16) and Bar-ren County (15-16) share that bracket. Logan stayed out of the bracket of Greenwood, the only regional team to beat them. Even though Monroe County has a good record, it's not on the level of Greenwood and Edmonson County, the other teams Coach Terricka Quarles'Lady Panthers could have drawn. The semifi0nals and finals will be played Thursday night.

Cougars barely miss playoffs in overtime loss
An inch and 45 seconds away from a Class 5A playoff berth, the Logan County Cougars were about to make history. But a fumble on that third and goal play inside the one ended the threat, and the Cougars went on to lose 20-14 in overtime to visiting Barren County Friday. The Trojans now join Bowling Green, Warren Central & Greenwood in representing the district in the playoffs.

Lady Cougars' season ends against South Warren
The Logan County Lady Cougars; first varsity soccer season came to an end at the same time and by the same score as their male counterparts Tuesday. Coach Daniel McCarley's team lost 6-0 to South Warren in the 7th District Tournament at Franklin. The Lady Cougars finished 4-9 with a pair of wins over Butler County along with one each over Warren East and Hart County. The Lady Spartans improved to 11-5. Seniors on the team are Alexis Harris and Jaylin Jones.

Primitive Camp Meeting/Rendezvous this weekend
As always the annual Primitive Camp Meeting and Rendezvous will be held at the Red River Meeting House Friday thru Sunday. History lessons will be taught each day at 2 p.m. Church services will be held Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m., complete with an 18^th century communion service on Sunday. Demonstrations will be offered at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. A camp restaurant will be available each day. Fire-wood and water are furnished. There is no camp fee. South Warren ends Cougar soccer's historic season
The end came for Logan County's first boys soccer season Tues-day in district action at Bowling Green Middle School. The Spar-tans won 6-0 to run their record to 8-10. The Cougars finished 5-12. Cougar seniors are Avrey Collier and Phineas Parsons.

Logan soccer teams in district action tonight
History will be made tonight when Logan County's first varsity soc-cer teams play in district tournaments. Unfortunately, they both play at the same time, 7:30. South Warren is the opponent for both. Coach Eric Evans' Cougars will be at Bowling Green Middle School, and Coach Daniel McCarley's Lady Cougars will be at Franklin-Simpson.

Lady Cougars win v'ball district; RHS second
For the ninth straight season, the Logan County Lady Cougars have won the 13th District volleyball championship. They beat Russellville in straight games in the finals at RHS Monday night after knocking off Franklin-Simpson in the opening round. Coach Terricka Quarles'Lady Panthers eliminated Todd Central in the other semifinals. The win in the finals was the 300th victory in the program's history. Coaches Steven Lyne and Rob Imlay have played key roles in all 300 wins. Among them have been 72 consecutive district victories.

Dinner theatre to be staged at RHS Friday
A dinner theater featuring the play "Murder Me Always" will be presented by the Russellville Arts Council this Friday at 6 p.m. in the lobby area of RHS/deGraffenried Auditorium at 6 p.m.. LCHS to honor fall sports senior athletes Friday
Logan County High School will publicly recognize its fall sports senior athletes on Friday, Oct. 14, prior to the school’s final home football game against Barren County at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to join the school in recognizing 40 athletes and for their athletic accomplishments and their parents/guardian for their contributions and support of Cougar Athletics.

Smtih's latest book of Logan remembrances now out
Russellville's most prolific author has published his latest book in time for Tobacco Festival visitors. Mammy & the Wild Apes tells of writer Algie Ray Smith's growing up in the 1940's & 50's on Russellville's East End where he continues to operate Smith & Sons service station. His grandmother, the late Cara Jane Woodward Whiting, is the Mammy who taught him and his six siblings many of life's lessons. Copies of the book can be purchased at Smith & Sons and at Riley White on Russellville's Carrico Square.

Festival Queen's Pageant canceled for 2011
The Queen’s Pageant of the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival was not held Saturday because of a lack of participation. A girl who is a student in the Russellville or Logan County system had been crowned queen every year but one since the Festival began its annual run over a half century ago. In 1973 the pageant was used to raise funds during the 175th anniversary celebration and there were no age or marriage restrictions. Linda Noe Chapman was the historic queen that year. Now LCHS student Molly Clark, the 2010 queen, becomes the first queen not to have an annual successor..

Gospel singing, Thunder, Wall, Blessing on tap
The second day of the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival Sunday features a Gospel Singing at the historic courthouse at 1:30 p.m., the Thunder on the Square Cruise-In on Carrico Park Square from 1:30-5:30 led by Clay and Debbie Bilyeu, the open-ing of the Wall of Heroes at the courthouse at 1:30, the Historic Walking Tour led by Evelyn Richardson at 2, and the Blessing of the Animals at City-County Park at 4, sponsored by Caney Fork Presbyterian Church and chaired by Tom Thompson.
