Free food for those who need it is available from Concerned Citizens of Russellville/Logan County this week. No clothes are being accepted or distributed, however.

“We have food which was provided by B&G Foods of Lebanon, Tenn.,” says Concerned Citizens Executive Director Dorris Vick. “Those who need food can come by our office and pick up a food package between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. People should come up one at a time, get their food, sign they got it, and then move away. Then another person can come up. We have to do it one at a time for social distancing.”

Concerned Citizens is located at 428 East Fifth Street in Russellville in what is often known as the KP Hall.

Vick said B&G brought 60 pallets of food here, but she only had room to store 24 of them. “We try to let all other agencies know when we have items to distribute so they can share in it, too,” she says.

There is no income restriction on who can have the food. If people feel they need it, they can get it, she says.

Concerned Citizens has a clothes distribution center, but can neither accept nor distribute garments now because of the need to isolate people from each other.

A prime source of income had disappeared now for Concerned Citizens. “We get money from renting the upstairs of our building to groups, but people can’t get together now because of the Conoravirus, so we’ve lost that for now,” Vick says.

Feed the Children from Oklahoma City sometimes sends a truck with free food and supplies, but nothing is certain about when that next shipment will come.

A truckload of food may come from Feed America in Elizabethtown, but the charge to Concerned Citizens for shipping it is $300. Concerned Citizens would appreciate monetary donations to help with that.

A higher goal is to buy an available building nearby which would provide storage space for all available food.

Anyone who is able and willing to make a donation is asked to send it to Concerned Citizens, Box 1351, Russellville, KY 42276.
