Mefford to play softball for Wabash
From Athletic Director Greg Howard: Logan County High School is proud to announce Grayce Mefford will sign with Wabash Valley College in Illinois to continue her softball career. Grayce will be signing with the Warriors this Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 3:30 p.m. at the Logan County CTC. Come join in celebrating her signing.

Panthers win 34-21,
headed to state finals
The Russellville Panthers are headed back to the state football finals for the seventh time. They led visiting Bethlehem 20-0 going into the fourth quarter and won 34-21 in the Class 1A semifinals. Rooster Woodard scored 3 touchdowns and Jovari Gamble 2 with Dustin Brown kicking all 4 extra points he tried. Mikie Benton will coach on the field where he started for the UK Wildcats and in the city where his dad, Michael Benton, started for RHS in the Panthers' first state finals in 1964. The opponent will be Pikeville in a rematch of the 1987 state finals at UK's Kroger Field at 11 a.m. Russellville time Friday.

practice Thanksgiving morning
Football on Thanksgving was a tradition for Russellville High School football for decades. Bowling Green High would be the opponent. That tradition ended long ago, but Coach Mikie Benton is continuing another. He's inviting Panther fans to an open practice at beautiful gold and black Ken Barrett Field at Rhea Stadium between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Panthers are preparing to host Bardstown Bethlehem in the Class 1A Final Four Friday at 7 p.m.

Community Thanksgiving Meal

Crittenden Drive Church of Christ will hold its annual Thanksgiving Eve Community Meal Wednesday from 5-6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come inside for a sit-down Thanksgiving meal or for carryout. Deliveries will be made to hundreds of people. If you would like to be added to the list for deliveries, call the church office at 270-726-6583 with the address and number of meals needed. A worship service will begin at 7 p.m. for those who would like to stay. Bethany Church of Christ is always deeply involved in this event.

Pep rally for both football
teams set Wednesday
Football teams from both local schools will play in the state semifinals in their classifications Friday. The only other cities with multiple teams still alive are Lexington and Louisville. The Logan County Cougars will travel to the Danville area to take on defending state Class 4A champion Boyle County. The Russellville Panthers will entertain Bethlehem of the Bardstown area, which has lost three games to RHS in previous regional finals. As a result, a joint “Community Pep Rally” will be held in support of both teams on the Russellvile Park Square at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Thanksgiving Eve gathering will show gratitude and encouragement for both of these champions.

Bonfire planned before
Panthers' state semifinals
From Russellville High School: We are planning a pregame bonfire/tailgate this Friday night prior to the State Semifinals game at Rhea! We will have hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, coffee, and hot chocolate so please come out and join us so we can have a huge crowd to welcome the 14x Region Champion Panther Football Team before they take the field to play for a chance to go to the 2021 KHSAA Class 1A State Championship Game.

The Logan County Ministerial Association's annual holiday service will be held this Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church on South Main Street in Russellville. The public is invited. It will also be broadcast live on WRUS at 104.9 FM, 610 AM, the WRUS Mobile app and the station’s website.

The Harvest closing, final day Saturday
Leslie and Tony Dunning announced on WRUS this morning the closing of The Harvest on East Fourth Street in Russellville. They are retiring, and intend to travel the country. The Harvest will close for the final time Saturday at 3 p.m. The site is the original location of Sonic Drive-In in Russellville. It was converted in a small grocery by former Houchens Market managers Glenn Hatler and Logan Chick, who later sold it to the Dunnings.

Logan Middle Cheerleaders
qualify for Disney Nationals
The Logan County Middle School Cheerleaders competed at the UCA Bluegrass Regional competition Saturday in Lexington. They placed sixth and received a bid to Nationals. They will compete in the KAPOS State competition on Dec. 18. Then in February they will compete in the UCA Nationals in Orlando at the Walt Disney Resort ESPN Center. Athletic Director Greg Howard says, “What an accomplishment for them just being the second year for LCMS as a team!”

Northern Kentucky team traveling
to Rhea Stadium Friday for semis
Located directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Newport Central Catholic (9-3) will make a multi-hour trip to Russellville Friday to play the Panthers (10-1) in the third round of the UK Orthopaedics State Finals (we just call them “the playoffs”). The Panthers beat visiting Crittenden County 24-7 last night for the first district championship while the Thoroughbreds were eliminating Dayton 54-6. Under the KHSAA’s new format, opponents and playing locations in higher rounds are based on RPI instead of regions. Coach Mikie Benton’s Panthers are rated first in the state in Class 1A at .74616 while Catholic is eleventh at .60135.

The Russellville Panthers beat Crittenden County 24-7 for their Class 1A District Championship Friday to run their record to 10-1. The state's top-rate team, RHS will entertain someone next week, depending on RPIs in this unusual year. The game will be aired on WRUS Saturday at 1 p.m.

Cougars beat Hopkinsville
39-37 for district title
In an unbelievably tight and thrilling game, the Logan County Cougars stopped Hopkinsville on three two-point conversions in the last few minutes to hold on for a 39-37 district championship win at home Friday. WRUS credited Wyatt Blake and Elijah Hawkins for stopping the tying run on the conversion and Davin Yates for knocking down a Tiger pass in the end zone on the game's last play. The Cougars rushed for 351 yards and had 443 yards total offense. Blake rushed for 147 yards and Ryan Rayno 131. Coach Todd Adler says the Cougars will host Spencer County next week in the West semifinals. Spencer beat John Hardin 7-5 Friday.

Cougars lead Hopkinsville
33-17 in the third quarter
Putting together a field goal and an immediate safety, Logan County led visiting Hopkinsville 5-0 at the end of the first quarter in the Class 4A's western-most district, but the Tigers took an 11-5 lead late into the second half. Then the Cougars used a fake punt, a double-lateral halfback pass, a multitude of formations and great execution to score 16 points in the last 2:15 of the half. The Cougars led 19-10 at the break. The Tigers scored on the opening possession of the second half, but 77 seconds later Cougar quarterback Davin Yates broke loose for a 54-yard touchdown run. The Cougar defense held and Ryan Rayno's run has the Cougars up 33-17 with 3:35 reamaining in the third quarter.

Four miles of Orndorff Mill
Road to be resurfaced
Resurfacing is scheduled to begin on a four-mile stretch of KY 96--the Orndorff Mill Road--Monday. The work is to be done on the southern end at mile markers 11-15. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 spokesman Wes Watt says motorists can expect lane closures. No end date was announced.

Bitty Basketball signups continue
Signups for Bitty Basketball at the Russellville Recreation Center continue. To play in this league, a child must be at least four years old by this Dec. 4 and be in kindergarten or lower. The season will be from the end of December through January. Teams will meet twice per week. The fee is $40 per child. After hours registration will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, Thursday, Nov. 18 and Monday, Nov. 22, along with 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23. Registration is also possible during regular office hours.

Lewisburg Nativity Scene
to be a drive-through
During this season of COVID, the Annual Live Nativity in Lewisburg will continue to be a “drive-through” Living Nativity for two nights, Friday & Saturday, Dec. 3 & 4, from 5-8 p.m. at McKinney Park! It will begin by turning on Stacker Street, go around McKinney Park, and exit back onto Stacker. There will be a small “take out” meal available. Once again this is a different season, with a different look, but the same message of Jesus is what planners want to be the main focus.

Russellville Independent Schools issued the following statement today: School officials are "closely monitoring our county’s Incidence Rate. We were yellow for the first time today. Our current plan indicates we will be mask optional only after five consecutive days in yellow. Today makes Day 1. We will continue to communicate our intentions over the coming days."

Adairville School to honor vets
Adairville School plans to honor veterans who are related to its students or who live in their community on Friday, the day after Veterans Day. A celebration will be held at 8 a.m. Veterans and their families are invited to attend and be recognized. The school also is requesting names and pictures of a “present or past family Veteran for our Veteran display. Pedro Bradshaw shines in 2nd pro game
After a disappointing performance in his first professional basketball game, Russellville’s Pedro Bradshaw had a sensational outing in the Salt Lake City Stars’ G League win over Oklahoma this weekend. The official NBA G League Twitter account says, “Pedro Bradshaw is a flat out scorer! The @slcstars sniper scored a game-high 23 points (9-14 fg) in 28 minutes today.” Five of those nine field goals were 3-pointers. In his first game, Bradshaw only had six points and an assist. He had five rebounds in this one. The Stars are the G League team of the Utah Jazz. A video of Pedro bombing in 3-pointers is included in the tweet.

Dec. 5's Schochoh Christmas Parade
to honor the Bobby Blackfords
The annual Schochoh Christmas Parade will be held "in downtown Schochoh" on Sunday, Dec. 5, beginning at 2 p.m. One of the organizers, Teresa Morrison, says, "All churches, organizations, tractors, horses or any other type float are welcome to be part of our 31st parade." Leader Jennifer Moore says the memory will be honored of the late Bobby Blackford, who was the long-time announcer for the parade. His widow, Carolyn Blackford, will be parade grand marshal. No barbecue will be served afterwards this year because of COVID concerns. Schochoh is home to some of Logan County's most fertile farm land and is located in the southeast corner of the county between Adairville and Simpson County.

Masks to remain optional
in Logan schools next week
Masks will continue to be optional in the Logan County Schools for the week of Nov. 8-12. Students and staff are still welcome to wear masks if they choose. Per federal mandate, masks are still required on school buses at all times. Logan County Schools leadership continues to monitor the county incidence rate, review weekly county average, assess rolling county averages weekly/monthly to determine trends, school quarantines, positive cases (staff and student), local/regional hospital capacity (this includes ICU, and the number or ventilators available). Cougars and clock run their way to district finals
By earning a running clock in the first three minutes of the second half Friday, the Logan County Cougars also earned the host role in next week’s district championship game in Class 4A. Zane Batton’s 19-yard touchdown reception from Davin Yates--after Isaac Poe caused and recovered a Madisonville-North Hopkins fumble—gave the home team the margin it needed to start the clock running. Mattia Giubilato’s sixth successful conversion kick made Logan’s lead over Madisonville-North Hopkins 42-3. The Maroons scored three touchdowns after that against the Cougar reserves to finish 42-24. Ryan Rayno ran for two TDs with Wyatt Blake & Elijah Hawkins rushing for one each. Yates and Jack Delaney teamed for a 61-yard scoring pass. The Cougars will entertain Hopkinsville next week.

LCHS officials deal with gun threat
Administrators at Logan County High School have announced that they have dealt with an alleged weapons threat in the alternative school wing Thursday morning and say there is no active threat at LCHS. They say that neither any students nor staff were ever in danger. They have promised to "ensure this situation is handled to the fullest extent of the law." Chamber to cut ribbon
on Trembly's Wildflowers
The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting for Trembly Pool & Spa's new expansion with The Wildflowers Saturday at noon. The businesses are located at 231 Hopkinsville Road near the bridge going into downtown Russellville. The Wildflowers will carry many of the clothing items and accessories associated with the now-closed Pink Blueberry.
