4-H Teen Club organizing Friday
A new Teen Club which Logan County 4-H Agent Maci Venable calls “A new opportunity to learn, grow, connect and lead”will meet this Friday at the Logan County Extension Office, beginning at 4 p.m. It’s for eight-twelfth graders. Participants will get to attend “fun leadership geared trips.” New or potential members are welcome to attend.

Cougars to play regional favorite Clinton County Monday
The Logan County Cougars (19-11) will play Clinton County (28-2) in the opening round of the Fourth Region Tournament Monday at 8 p.m. at Diddle Arena. Tickets at the door will be $10. Advance tickets can be purchased at LCHS for $8 today until 2:30 p.m.

Date announced for free sports physicals for Logan student-athletes
Med Center Health will conduct free sports physicals for student athletes who will be in grades 6-12 next year and are students in a Logan County School. It will be June 2 from 4-6 p.m. at the Logan County CTC.

Graduated Driver Licensing class offered at CTC
Logan County CTC will host the Alive @ 25 Class, which is required for all students needing to fulfill their Graduated Driver Licensing requirement. It will be Tuesday, March 11, from 4-8 p.m. with Todd Holder.

Advance tickets for region available at LCHS
Tickets for tonight’s regional tournament game will be on sale at the front office of Logan County High School until 2:30 this afternoon. Advance tickets are $8 each while they will be $10 at the gate. The Cougars will play Clinton County at 8 p.m. at Diddle Arena. The game will be broadcast on WRUS with Zack Woodall and Ben Brown on the call. Clinton County is rated number one in the region by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s RPI measurements.

Diamond sports seasons to open Monday
The first official games of the high school baseball and softball seasons will be played by three teams from the Land of Logan Monday. Coach Ryan Davenport’s Russellville Lady Panthers will entertain Warren East. Coach Gary Gettings’ Logan County Lady Cougars will travel to Ohio County. In baseball, Coach Ethan Meguiar’s Cougars will play host to Butler County. Meanwhile on Tuesday, after taking last season off, new Coach Seth Whittaker and his Pantherswill make his/their debut by playing Butler County. All games are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Award-winning author coming to Russellville
Logan County Public Library and Russellville High School have announced that free tickets will be available starting Friday to attend an Author Fest at deGraffenried Auditorium on Monday, April 28, at 6 p.m. They will welcome New York Times Bestselling author Carmen Agra Deedy to Russellville. Carmen’s amazing books for young readers have won many honors and accolades. She has fascinated readers for decades by pulling stories from her childhood as a Cuban refugee in Decatur, Ga. Carmen’s books, including Carina Felina, will be available for purchase after the event and attendees will have a chance to meet the author.

Search & Rescue Fish Fry set Saturday
The 53rd Annual Logan County Search & Rescue will be held at the Extension Office this Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m. Catfish dinners or hot dog meals will be available for a set donation. A $300 grand prize will be offered. Clay Bilyeu will provide the entertainment, and Tim Haley and Will Gregory will do the auctioneering of donated items. Proceeds will be used for the maintenance of rescue equipment.

Cougars and Lady Cougars win season openers
The Logan County Cougars opened their baseball season Monday by beating Butler County 6-3. Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team goes to Greenwood Tuesday for a 5:30 first pitch. Coach Jason Jaggers’ Gators shut out Glasgow 2-0 Monday. Coach Gary Gettings’ Lady Cougars went on the road to beat Ohio County 8-3 Monday. They get to stay home Tuesday to host Allen County-Scottsville, also at 5:30. Coach Brad Bonds’ Lady Patriots thumped Franklin-Simpson 6-1 Monday. Russellville’s softball game was moved to Warren East Monday, and the young Lady Panthers fell 6-3. Coach Ryan Davenport’s team will be on the road again Thursday at Edmonson County with a 6 p.m. start. Edmonson, coached by Alex Jane Massey, blasted Warren Central 15-0 Monday. Coach Seth Whittaker’s RHS baseball team opens its special season Tuesday against the Butler County team which lost to Logan Monday.

Henson, Thompson and Coles lead Logan archers at state
From Logan County Archery reporter Amanda Costello: LCHS archery went to NASP KY State Tournament on March 14. It was held at the KY Expo center in Louisville. The Cougars were able to take two teams this year. Team #1 placed 19th out of 142 schools. Top male scorers for LCHS were Philip Thompson, who shot a 288, followed by Jace Coles with 282. LCHS’s top female, Haley Henson. shot 281. Thompson also placed 10th overall out of all 12th grade males at the tournament. Five of our archers shot a personal best during state tournament: Carson Beachy, Saul Gaskey, Miya Hodges, Noah Carnal and Jace Johnson.

Chamber celebrates 60 years of Community Action
From new Logan County Chamber Membership Coordinator Abby Nash: On March 12, the Logan County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate 60 years of service to Community Action of Southern Kentucky! Community Action of Southern Kentucky was established on Feb. 24,1965, to focus on addressing issues like economic struggles and housing insecurity. This organization offers a variety of programs, including Head Start, Early Head Start, Senior Programs, Low Income Home Energy Assistance and Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange. They work with federal, state, and local governments to ensure that the needs of low-income individuals and families are met. Clinton County and BGH to play in regional finals Wednesday
Clinton County, the team which ended high school basketball in the Land of Logan for this season, will play Coach D.G. Sherrill’s Bowling Green Purples in the Fourth Region championship game Wednesday in Diddle Arena at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs, who eliminated the only team from here—the Logan County Cougars—last Monday, beat Barren County in the semifinals Monday. Logan to Light It Up Blue for Autism Saturday
Everyone is invited to Light it Up Blue for Autism this Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Logan County Extension Office. Families attending will be able to enjoy bounce houses. Face painting, door prizes, concessions, music with a deejay, a raffle and a silent auction. Autism resources will be available. A balloon launch is planned at 2:30. All activities are free, but proceeds grom the silent auction and raffle will go to the Russellville and Logan County Special Education Departments.

deGraffenried Chorale to present “Requiem’ Sunday
As the deGraffenried Chorale—established in 1978—nears its 50th birthday, the distinguished group will present the highly respected Requiem by John Rutter as its spring concert this Sunday. As has become the tradition, the site will be the United Methodist Temple on Russellville’s South Main Street, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Mary Beth Dowden continues as director and Susan Fox as accompanist. LCHS Beta Club members competed at the Third District Beta Competition in Bowling Green. The following students placed: Natalie Cox, first in Division I Language Arts; Lily Rudd, first in Division 2 Poetry; and Kylie Thomas, second in Mixed Media.

Chamber holds ribbon cutting for temporary site
The Logan County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 19 to celebrate their new location. They have moved into a new temporary building where they are continuing to care for the County's stray and surrendered companion animals while they are preparing to build a new Adoption Center and Spay Neuter Clinic. Logan County Humane Society hopes to build a new low-cost Spay-Neuter Clinic that also hosts an Adoption Center, a "Working Cats" program, a Community Crisis Center for long-term fostering and pet food assistance, as well as Training & Education Services to help overcome the most common behavioral reasons pets are surrendered.

Bethany Church to honor Harris Dockins for 30 years’ ministry
Bethany Church of Christ will honor their minister Harris Dockins, for 30 years in their pulpit, this Sunday from noon-3 p.m. after the morning services. Bethany is located at 620 Lickskillet Road in the Olmstead area. Dockins also farms with his brother David Dockins and is chairman of the board of the East Logan Water District. He also has served on multiple bank boards. He and his wife, retired Logan County High School teacher Sharon Dockins, and their daughter Lee live near Russellville. Their sons, Frank Harris (Amy) and John Logan (Savannah), live with their daughters in Tennessee and Alabama, respectively. Harris Dockins speaks at 8:15 a.m. on WRUS every other Sunday in a time slot manned by his late father, Frank Dockins Jr., for several decades.

Notes over Noodles to return Friday
The annual Russellville High School Music Departments’ Notes Over Noodles will be held this Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the school. Search & Rescue, county honor Maxie Rittenberry
At the Logan County Search & Rescue Fish Fry, the rescue unit recognized Assistant Chief Maxie Rittenberry for 55 years of service to the Logan County SAR. Maxie received a plaque from the unit. Also, County Judge-Executive Phil Baker presented Maxie with a plaque proclaiming March 22 ,2025 Maxie Rittenberry Day in Logan County. Plans are for his 90th birthday to be celebrated in Auburn in April.

Tryouts to become an RHS cheerleader coming up
Russellville High School Cheer Coach Shanon Leavell has announced that tryouts for next year’s squad will be held April 25. Voluntary open gym will be available April14, 15th and 17th from 3:30-5 p.m. Clinics will be held April 21-24 for those planning to try out. They must attend at least two of the four days because tryout routines will be taught. All sessions will be held at Jim Young Gymnasium.

Landon Gregory shines in Cougars’ 1-0 win
Freshman Landon Gregory not only pitched a two-hit, one-walk, six-strikeout shutout at Glasgow Friday, but he also drove in the only run. Senior catcher Tripp Wadlington singled and doubled with courtesy runner Bryar Gaddis scoring as his courtesy runner. The only other Cougar hit the Cougars got off Scottie hurler Carter Hodges came off the bat of freshman TySean Thomeczek.

Panther tennis beats Allen County
The Russellville High School boys tennis team earned a victory over Allen County-Scottsville Wednesday. Caleb Ragland won 6-1, 7-5. Riley Hatfield won 8-6 in a comeback after being down 6-4. Reed Parrish picked up an 8-2 victory. Heer Patel picked up an individual win for the girls team.

Southern Heights to host VBS during spring break
Southern Heights Baptist Church, which is located on the southern border of Russellville on Nashville Street, will host a VBS during spring break for both school system Sunday, March 30, through Wednesday, April 2, with a barn dance on Thursday. Hours are 5:15-7:30 p.m. The theme is “Welcome to Wonder Junction.”

Carrie Derosett to conduct livestock lesson in Logan
Former Logan County 4-H Agent Carrie Derosett, who now is a state Extension Specialist for Animal Science and Agriculture, will lead a session of the Logan County 4-H Livestock Club Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Logan County Extension Complex. The theme will be “Quiz Bowl, Skillathon & Showing 101.” Reservations should be made through her successor, Maci Venable, by Monday, April 7.
Logan Farmers’ Market to open May 31
Two months from today, the Logan County Farmers’ Market will open for the 2025 season. At last week’s organizational meeting, it was decided to start May 31 instead of waiting until the traditional first Saturday in June. Hours will be similar to last year with an extra hour on Tuesdays—7:30-noon on Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. on Tuesdays. Senior and WIC vouchers will be available again. Market managers are Logan County Family and Consumer Science Agent Rachel Hance and Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent Leann Martin. A larger than usual number of vendors attended the training meeting last Monday. Anyone who would else who wants to be a vendor should talk with one of the managers before opening day.

RHS students earn automotive certification
Sarah Buckner, Labryan Nourse, Samuel Cruz Lara and Dekota Yell have received their industry certification for NIMS Level 1 Measurements, Materials and Safety. They are RHS students who take classes at the Logan County Center & Technical Center. Some Logan County students achieved that certification, too, and are named in a story about LCHS students’ accomplishments in the Features section.

Chamber honors Simons for renovations of Dr. Webb’s office
The Logan County Chamber of Commerce presented the March Beautification Award to Travis Simon - State Farm Insurance Agent on March 3. The building is currently owned by Travis and Amanda Simon and was purchased from long time neighbor, Dr. Bill Webb. Sheryl and Freddie Markham completed the renovations to the building. To pay homage to Dr. Webb, the Simons kept parts of his business and utilized it in the current decor including an old rotary phone, mirrors in previous exam rooms, and red-light light switches used in the optometry office.
