Funeral services tomorrow for retired teacher Esther White, age 105
Russellville’s longest living retired educator, Esther White, who began her career in the Logan County System, has passed away 11 days short of her 106th birthday. She was a respected teacher and perhaps even more cherished retiree. For decades after her retirement, she could be seen on the sidewalks of Russellville speaking to many of her former students. Her first job was in a one-room school where she rode her pony to work. She then taught in the Adairville Elementary School, followed by the three-room school at Corinth, ending up at the Russellville Independent School System where she taught fifth grade and middle school. She was preceded in death many years ago by her talented cabinet-making husband Horace O. White. Mrs. White is survived by her daughter Polly Ann White of Russellville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Russellville with fellow retired educator Mickey Meguiar officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until funeral time.
