2025 is a special year as it marks the 225th anniversary of The Great Revival of 1800 in South Logan.

A three-day celebration will be held this Friday through Sunday on the grounds of the Red River Meeting House.

This special historical religious event will include exploring the history of Rev. James McGready as he came to Logan County in 1796 and his three congregations (Red River, Gasper River, and Muddy River) that he led.

In these three churches folks were asked to fast and pray.

In Rev. McGready’s writings that were published in 1837, 20 years after his death, titled THE POSTHUMOUS WORKS OF JAMES McGREADY, it is written about the ‘awakening’ that occurred and goes on to say, “But the year 1800 exceeds all that my eyes ever beheld on earth.”

225th Anniversary of The Great Revival of 1800 starts at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 10, and concludes with 10 a.m. Scottish sacrament service on Sunday, Oct. 12.
