Author and photographer David Toczko will unveil his newest book, South Union Shaker Village, on Friday, April 11, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the 1824 Centre House at the South Union Shaker Village, 850 Shaker Museum Road, Auburn.. This is an exclusive first look at the book, which will directly benefit the preservation efforts of this important landmark.

“South Union Shaker Village” is a photographic tribute to one of Kentucky’s most historic treasures. Through pictures, the reader will tour the Shaker Village, captured in every season. More than 250 color images showcase the historic structures, lifestyle, architecture, culture and scenic beauty of South Union Shaker Village.

“South Union has a remarkable history that is often overlooked,” says Sharon Duane Koomler, author and Shaker scholar. “David’s photography captures the essence of the physical history that defines South Union, along with the remarkable preservation of the site. The images are beautiful, at times playful, and a poignant reminder of South Union’s past.”

The South Union Shaker Quartet will perform at the unveiling and refreshments will be provided.

“Today, the South Union Shaker Villages owns and interprets seven of the nine remaining village structures, and protects five hundred acres of the original farm,” says Tommy Hines, executive director of the Village. “David Toczko’s wonderful photographs successfully capture the essence of South Union.”

David Toczko is a long-time Kentucky resident and a Western Kentucky University graduate. His interest in photography began in 1985 and has grown from a passionate hobby to a career. Toczko’s photographs are exhibited in galleries and shows throughout Kentucky and have appeared in both national and international magazines.
