Baseball Clash at RHS today
New Russellville baseball coach Blake Crabtree will experience his first Clash of the Cats Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Kelly Russell Field. Russellville is 1-6 on the season. The win came over Butler County. The Panthers have talented seniors Wesley Stratton, Desmon Quarles, Jacob Procter & Logan Hannah, but Quarles and Procter are limited in what they can do because of football injuries. Unavailable because of extended illness is freshman infielder Dillon Porter. Returning starters Colby Nichols, Jason Mitchell & Jordan Blick are counted on heavily. Coach Ethan Meguiar’s Cougars are 7-2 and are deep and experienced. They are led by the seniors who were members of the 2009 World Series team, Caleb Bruner, Matt Harper, Tucker Baldwin & Daniel Beaty. Veteran pitchers Bruner, Harper & Hunter Britt are joined by Jordan Hendrix & Hunter Crafton on the mound. Key returnees Michael Riley, Luke Woodall & Jackson Campbell have helped reach the record.

Adairville students get free books
Recently, Adairville School d a grant from the First Books Foundation. Kaye Hendricks, the Reading Interventionist at Adairville, applied for the grant, hoping that it could help with providing books to students who may not be able to purchase books themselves. In early March, Adairville received the news that over 300 books, ranging in level from preschool through 8th grade, would be shipped to the school. As books are awarded to students, a card will be attached to each that will share with parents how they can support their child as he/she reads. Hendricks says, "Getting books into the hands of students is a priority at Adairville School. Good readers make good leaders!"

BGH holds off Lady Cougar comeback in regional semifinals
If the Logan County Lady Cougars could have hit their shots in the first half, they would be playing in the Fourth Region Tournament finals Sunday afternoon. They couldn't and they won't. The Lady Cougars missed an estimated 20 close-in shots in the first half and managed only 11 points. They trailed 22-11 at the half, fell behind 31-14, and then mounted a steady comeback led by post players Brooke Barnes and Rachel Barnett that saw Coach Finley Baird's team pull within three points twice, once with 20 seconds left in the game. But favored Bowling Green pulled out the win 46-39 in the semifinals Friday. Barnes was one of those who had some unfortunate misses early, but she was the dominant player in the game, still finishing with a double-double. The defense of Taleia Mason was also a key to the Lady Cougars' staying close. Maegann Hardison hit two 3-pointers, but those were her only points. Markizjah Mimms had 13 points and Deja Moore 8 to lead Coach Lavonda Johnson's Lady Purples.
