Planning has started for the Russellville Area Technology Center to launch a CTSO “Unite to Serve” Project. “Unite to Serve” is a statewide project designed by Kentucky’s Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) for implementation during the 2015-2016 school year.
The overall goal is to have all Career and Technical Student Organizations within a school work together to serve their school or community. The RATC hosts three CTSOs: FBLA, HOSA, and SkillsUSA. These organizations will work together on projects that involve the three components of “Unite to Serve”: Literacy, Advocacy, and Career Awareness.
The KY CTSO “Literacy” project is designed to encourage a joint effort of all Kentucky Student Organizations within the RATC. The Literacy project was developed with a Primary-3rd grade emphasis, using the “Share a Story” concept.
The RATC “Unite to Serve” campaign will start Thursday, Sept. 24, at Open House from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a Unite to Read activity. Individuals in our community are encouraged to bring their young family members to the Russellville ATC where students from the CTSO’s will be reading and completing activities with students.
CTSO Advocacy is an optional project within “Unite to Serve.” As with the overall goal of “Unite to Serve,” the RATC project will include all Career and Technical Student Organizations with each working together to advocate for Career and Technical Education (CTE). This will include activities that create awareness of or support for CTE.
RATC will start this component with a planned community landscaping of the “Belinda Ray Memorial Garden” in front of the RATC at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 before Open House. Students and advisors will join to revitalize the garden.
The Russellville ATC/CTSO Career Awareness activities will educate students on the career pathways available to them as they advance in high school as well as the Career and Technical Student Organizations affiliated with these pathways. Plans for activities for this component will follow in the near future.
